Today I came upon the website of a German health insurance company.

They have an article on gynecomastia: "Gynecomastia. All what a man must know".

They tell Manuel's story. He is a 36 year old man, who was embarrassed of his 'mounds', until he in the end consulted a physician and decided getting surgery. "Since then, he feels completely comfortable with his figure, even in the sauna, on the beach, or at the swimming pool."

The article explains gynecomastia quite well and even states: " 'True' gynecomastia is often caused by an imbalance between testosterone and estrogen."

Then they mention medication (testosterone shots), but with the warning that too much testosterone can be converted into estrogen and even enlarge the breast.

In the end this article is clearly pro surgery and quotes Manuel: "Unfortunately, my health insurance company rejected my application, but I had almost expected that. Luckily, I had already started saving up.“ 
In total, he paid just under €5,000 for his procedure. ”But it was so worth it! I feel completely at ease now."

This is more than typical for health insurance companies, that often reject many applications for some treatments. Wearing bras would be not only a much cheaper solution than surgery, but perfect for men who don't believe in the black and white male-female category. But nil, they not even mention the possibility of wearing a bra.

That's a typical attitude. Men don't wear bras. Spend money and have them removed. That's your only option.

As we've discussed before, the strong driver toward surgery is between our ears.  The discomfort is invariably psychological rather than physical.  Insurance companies won't generally cover surgery simply because it is not a medical condition that requires treatment.  I believe the same is true for breast enhancement surgery.  If you want bigger boobs or no boobs, the cost is yours to bear.

We are a weird breed.  We're choosing to accept something that most men view as a source of discomfort or shame.  And clearly, though we can talk comfortably about appreciating our breasts, we aren't talking about that with men at work or the game.  It is out little secret.  We talk about brassieres and panties and though men who enjoy crossdressing will speak about it differently, we're more in alignment with them than men with whom we go bowling or fishing.  I know that is not a topic celebrated on this website, but it is true.

I hope Manuel has a good experience with his surgery, that over the long term he will feel that money was well spent.  I know men on this site who have had surgery have had breasts return.  I guess when estrogen is on the scene she will ultimately have her way with us.  I'm surrendered completely!  I'm glad I found other men who feel the same... even if they express that truth differently. Different strokes, right?
