Dear Doctors,
I am planning to have the surgery soon. As of now doing research work in searching the right doctor.
I have elevated blood pressure of 130/80. Rarely it goes upto 150/100. I am under medication. I take tablet during night time. So, in the daytime pressure will be normal (120/80). But in evening it will elevate.
Also i may get scared when in operation theatre. My pressure increases when i see the doctor, which we call as white coat hypertension. But after 5/ 10 mins the pressure will become normal.
Am i fit enough to undergo surgery ?
Please suggest.

Blood pressure medications  are not the same as blood thinners. As far as your operative risks there is not much about your history here.Basically transient hypertension (high blood pressure) is not a contraindication for surgery, however every patient should be optimized prior to elective surgery.

I agree with Dr. Pensler.

Surgeons operate on patients with high blood pressure all the time.  The important point is that you should be on optimal medication and your BP should be as stable as possible.  When you go for surgery, you will usually be asked to take your BP pill with a sip of water on the day of your operation.

During the actual operation, the anesthesiologist can monitor your BP and treat any rise in BP with appropriate medication.

But first, you BP must be as stable as possible.
