What are the advantages of LMA anesthesia over the older traditional general anesthesia techniques?

The only difference is that an LMA doesn't put a tube down into your trachea, as would be done under traditional general anesthesia.

Otherwise, the anesthesia is usually the same.

Better to discuss this with your surgeon and/or anesthesiologist.  Would not make a big deal about this -- the difference is trivial.

LMA can allow for a "lighter" general anesthetic since the device doesn't require paralysis to insert, and may have less coughing associated with it during emergence from anesthesia (waking up).  This is the approach used for those patients undergoing a general anesthetic for most of my gynecomastia patients.
