Can't wait to get rid of this shit. Only problem is, I have to travel by plane and sleep in an airport overnight, all for about 20 minutes of a consultation in which he can tell me nothing I don't already know.

I hope there won't be a huge wait in between the consultation and the surgery.

Me likewise... certainly makes you feel good when you finally get round to booking something after years of inaction, why not shout about it !  I'm off to doc K too in a couple of wks. From what I've read it should be a matter of weeks, rather than months in between consultation and operation.
