Can it "come back" after an op?

If I go to a decent surgeon, and get glands and fat removed from both, they can't grow later, can they?

I mean, it's all gone.. ?

When women have to have theirs removed, they don't grow back, do they?

And how much should a surgeon take off? Should he remove everything so that it's just skin lying on muscle (as is in a bicep)?

It can grow back if your hormones arent settled yet (done with puberty?). Go to an endocrinologist to check if they are. You can also get them from taking steroids, etc. Read www.plasticsurgery4u.com (Dr. Bermant's website) for information on what he does with the gland and stuff.

Hmm. I'm done with puberty, but might have to take testosterone for the rest of my life.

If women have a mastectomy, they don't grow back, do they?
What is the difference between a mastectomy and a gynecomastectomy?

I understood that men and women have the same breast tissues which are only activated by estrogen.
Women's breasts don't keep growing as long as there's estrogen supplied, and they don't disappear when estrogen stops.

Another thing to consider is that the first op might not fully address your problem. I've had an op with a "top surgeon" frequently used on this board and I am going back for a revision with him in a month or so.

Talk to your surgeon about a free revision if he doesn't get it right the first time.

I think the only way it would grow back is if you had something going on hormonally that would encourage what small bits of gland are left post-surgery to grow.  That's why anyone who is serious about getting rid of their gynecomastia ought to see a doc first about getting the hormones check before moving on to other forms of treatment.

In my country, a normal doctor can get any blood tests done, but they don't usually know enough to specialise in it, so they refer you to a specialist.

But if you ask a standard doctor for a testosterone blood test, I think most will OK it.

my surgeon told me he will remove ALL gland (I'm think I'm mostly gland) and leave SMALL LAYER OF FAT.  if there is no fat directly under your nipple they pull it down from other areas around the chest.  

I think part of it may depend on if you will have a CAVED IN look with all chest fat removed.
