cosmetic vs plastic

I’v e been having consultaions with both plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons, can anybody explain if there is a difference?? I’m looking for someone in queensland preferably Brisbane Australia but will travel anywhere

Its just a marketing thing Cosmetic sounds better than plastic.
Liposculpture sounds better than liposuction etc..

There was a time when I would have been in total agreement that it was all the same. Not so any longer.

What we once called plastic surgery included both restorative surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Because the two overlap in many instances, the term plastic surgery is still used and can mean either or both.

I was injured in a logging accident and had some very severe damage to my left hand. I was fortunate enough to find a surgeon who had specialized in restorative surgery to hands. That particular surgeon did not do cosmetic surgery Per Se. But in spite of having my hand tangled up in a chain saw, it looks and works quite normally. The only lasting result is a minor tingling in one finger and the fact that I cringe everytime that I hear a 2 cycle engine windup.

I was very fortunate to find the surgeon I did. The hand works well in spite of having had two fingers almost completely cut off. The only residual effect is a bit of tingling in one finger tip. I have full range of motion and better manual dexterity than some people who have uninjured hands.

The point I wanted to make was that my surgeon was a specialist in restoration. There are also surgeons who specialize in cosmetic surgery. They are very different, yet both could be called Plastic Surgeons.

again there is no difference, the two can be used interchangibly, there is no law that says you have to do restorative surgery in order to call your self a plastic surgeon.
