Hi All

I was wondering if someone could help me with a question. I am 19, 5'8 and 302 pounds(Was 344 in march but am on a diet) A few people have told me that my chest (Which is on the large side) seems to be getting smaller as i loose the weight but i don't see it. How do i know if its just fat or GYNO? When i lay on my back my chest is pretty flat but standing is a completely different story. I'm paranoid that when i get down to my target weight my stomach will be gone but my chest will show more then ever. Any suggestions

             Thanks in Advance

First of all, congrats on dropping so much weight, but to be brutally honest, this isn't something you should be concerned about right now and there is nothing you can do about it anyway.  Your situation is what it is, the ONLY thing you should be focused on right now is losing another 100 pounds at least.  Once you get there, you can assess the damage and figure out what to do then.  The only other thing is to save as much money as you can because at that weight you will probably have some loose skin that you need to take care of on top of the gyne (if you indeed have it).

However, as to your questions, there is probably no way to tell whether you have it or not unless you drop at least another 100 pounds.

Thanks for the reply. I see what your saying. My goal is to be at or around 200 pounds by late December to mid January( I'm trying to get fit for the fire department exams) Till then ill just have to focus on my training

                     Thanks again

The breast is one of the places where excess fat is naturally deposited.

The question seems to be whether you have glandular tissue or only fatty tissue to contend with in the breast area.

I am not a Doctor, and what I say should be considered on its own merit alone rather than being considered as a professional opinion.

That said, I think that excessive fat may also contribute to the aromatization of testosterone into estrogen. This would set the stage for glandular growth.

In most cases, there is both fatty and glandular tissue present.  It would seem rare for one to be totally absent and the breast enlargement due to exclusively the other.

In any case, your problem now is whether your skin has been stretched to such a degree that it cannot shrink back effectively as you lose weight.

Simply stay on track with your weight loss and see what happens. Your breasts will diminish in size as you lose weight. Our experience here suggests that the amount of shrinkage in the breast area will not be sufficient to satisfy you and that you will ultimately be seeking surgery.

It is important that the weight loss and stabilization precede the surgery for the best possible results.

what they said is true, although sometimes if you post pics in the pictures area you can get a preliminary response.  severe cases are still easier to pick out.  sometimes also weight gain can be the effect of a general gyne depression.

if you're worried about it being more obvious by then, that can happen, but you're still doing the right thing to get ready for an op, if that's what you decide to do, you just want to start making plans for that as step two.  good luck   :)

* if it screws up your life the same, is there really any such thing as "mild" gyne?
