Just got some labs back from an Aussie lab. Anyone think these are worthy of moving from a GP to an endocrinologist?

Free T  29.7 (31-163) pmol.L *
FAI 40.3 (no range)
SHBG 35.2 (10-70) nmol/L
T 14.2 (12-36) nmol/L

I am 54 years old, had gyne (until some quite good surgery in NYC) and have some low sex drive and other annoying possibly hormonal related issues.

Cheers,

Very strongly, Yes.

There are some GP's who are quite well informed in this area but most are not. It is a specialty for a good reason and you would be better off with a specialist.

Yeah, I know most GP won't refer you unless you are hitting rock bottom on your labs, but I was just wondering how borderline or just under these numbers look. Cheers,

Not all patients having gynecomastia surgery need labs.

Lab results can vary based on the time of day, the quality of the lab, and many other factors. A good Endocrinologist bases their recommendations on more than just numbers. I recommend all my patients with Red Flags such as hormone issues to see an experienced Endocrinologist before my surgical sculptor. Working on a stable problem is the best way to minimize the chance of recurrence of gynecomastia after surgery. Yes, I have seen patients who did regrow their breasts after other doctors' surgery.

Low lab values can be the result of being taken late in the day. That is why having such issues checked by the Endocrinologist can be so important.

Hope this helps,

These are morning numbers, incidentally.
