hi everyone,

This is my first post here and I think this is an excellent site, so I just want to start by saying a few things about
my situation. May be there is someone else who has the same problem and might know the cause or cure, so please do
share.

well, I think that I had gynecomastia since grade 10, but it didn't show a lot. Also at that time I didn't know anything about
gynecomastia and I was a bit overweight, so I thought it was fat.  As time went on, it started to show more, and get bigger.
Even at that time (grade 12) I was overweight and I though that was the cause.  So that summer after graduation I decided
to do something about it. I exercised intensly everday and lost a lot of weight, but to my supprise, there was no reduction in the
size of chest.  Thats when I searched the internet and found out about Gynicomastia.

This was really hard on me. I did everything to conceal my condition. I would bring my shoulders closer together and sort of curve
my back to try to hide the condition. I would also wear big shirts so that its less noticable.  So after 2-3 years of concealing, I got tired
of it. so I visited my familly doctor. My doctor gave me a hormone test to check wheather my hormones were balanced. she also gave me a thyroid hormone test. But tests came out normal. I can't believe that I am saying this, but I was disapointed that my tests came out normal. I guess I wanted the doctor to find a problem so that I can fix it.  so here I am with healthy weight, normal hormones and still suffer from gynicomastia.

I don't know how relevant this is and I am kind of embarrased saying this, but I used to masterbate since I was in grade 8 or 9. I was
exposed to porn in early age and I used to masterbate even after I graduated. I used to do it a lot, even about 5 days a week. But now its been about 8-9 months that I have reduced it to about once a week. And I am trying to quite it altogether.

so you might be wondering wy I might be talking about masterbation, but thats the only cause that I can think of.  So please if there
is anyone else with normal hormones and body weight (in my situation), please do share your story and if you possibly know any cure
then please let me know. Also please comment on my masterbation theory and if there is any link to causing gynecomastia.

I don't why, but I amkind of relieved to share this with everyone. I have never talked about this with anyone but my doctor.

thanks for reading.

Welcome aboard!

Your condition does not seem at all unusual. We've heard The same things many time and we are living through it or something very nearly the same ourselves.

Slouching in an attempt to hide your Gynecomastia is something that a lot of guys try in order to conceal or minimize the breasts. Unfortunately, it does not work. Leaving the chest slack with the shoulders forward allows the breast to be even more pendulous than otherwise and it merely gives you a sloppy appearance. You'd be better off to stand tall and at least look like you have a degree of self pride.

The question of masturbation arises from time to time and I can assure you that it does not cause gynecomastia. If it did, every 16 year old male would have breasts the size of volleyballs.

Obesity can be a real issue, but a bit overweight should not be an issue. It is true that the breast area is a normal and embarassing place for fatty deposits. This is so true that weight loss even to an unhealthy degree seldom makes a major difference in breast size.

There are very good compression garments available in most sporting goods stores that are quite effective at minimizing the appearance of the breasts.

Avoid the products that claim to get rid of the condition, they are scams and will only reduce your wallet.

First of all thanks for the reply.  The problem that I am having is finding the cause of my gynecomastia.  Every website that I have
visited says that the cause is either hormonal imbalance or being overweight, but I have non of those problems.  Its so hard and frustrating to try to fix something if you don't know what the problem is.  I just don't know what to do  ???  Also I don't have the money or the guts to go through a surgery, so I really don't want to resort to that.

I try so many things, like going into a vegetarian diet or doing high intensity exercise or weight lefting to increase testosterone (although mine was normal to begin with, I know it sounds stupid), but then I see no result, so I give up and loose all hope. Then after a while my condition really starts to bother me again, so again i try some other pathetic scheme to try to fix it, while deep down knowing that its not going to work.

As far as trying products over the internet goes, I will never do it. Unless its something that is highly recomended by my doctor. oh, and I can't wear compression vest, I just won't be able to convince my self to do it, beside my condition is not that extreme.

I just want to know if there was anyone else in this forum who had normal weight and hormone balance, but still suffered from this condition?

In many cases, there is no known cause. It's called: Idiopathic (arising spontaneously or from an obscure or unknown cause).

Also I don't have the money or the guts to go through a surgery, so I really don't want to resort to that.

By the sounds of it, you've had your G for more than two years...  In which case, if you don't have surgery to correct the condition, then you're stuck with them dude...  Sorry mate....   :-\

I have had it for 4+ years. Why can't I correct it without surgery after 2 years or more?
I really don't know, please help me out here.

It is the consensus of medical professionals and the members of this site, that if the condition persists for more than two years without resolving itself naturally, the only course of action to be G free, is surgical reduction...

To answer your question of 'why'....  because in most cases, there are just two ways to be G free... one, to have it go away on it's own (usually within a few months to a year), and two, to have it removed/reduced, surgically. Any other method promised, is just a scam and as Grandpa Dan says... "Will only reduce the size of your wallet"...

We live in a time where we want to assign a cause to everything. Sometimes the cause cannot be found because it no longer exists.

For most of us this is the case. The development of Gynecomastia was an event rather than a result of an on-going condition. Under such circumstances the cause would have to remain unknown. You may guess at a lot of things, but in truth you'll never really know.

Instead of expending a lot of effort in trying to assign blame for the condition, either accept it or get rid of it and get on with your life.

There is little to be gained by whipping a dead horse.

this sucks. complete loss of hope. But I guess its better than false hope.
one thing I realized about this forum though, is that everyone have seem to give up.
everyone suggest to either accept the condition or do a surgerry. I guess most members here are like me. tried everything, but nothing works.

At the age of 72, and having had the condition for about 60 years; there is not much chance that this is simply going to go away. Couple that with the fact that my priorities have changed a number of times in my life and you'll understand that breast reduction surgery is rather low on my list of priorities now. When I was at an age where it would have been important to me the surgery was not as good an option as it is now.

That said, I will have to admit that Gynecomastia never got in the way of my having a good time at any point in my life. It was my attitude about it that got in the way.

Facing the fact that surgery is the only way to get rid of it is not giving up, it is simply facing reality.

If a young man of today looked at the surgical results of 50 years ago and used that as a basis for inaction I'd say he had given up.

Surgery today is a source of hope rather than resignation.

I masturbate almost everyday and I never feel ashamed or embarrassed, it is absolutely normal and I can talk about porn freely around friends and the reason why I'm always capped on the net is because I rack it up by visiting porn websites. Also, if anybody tells you they never masturbate or very rarely, they are either lieing or have a girlfriend who ****s them all the time (lucky). Majority of men don't have that luxury everyday.

The first post was about masturbation, read it again. I was simply reassuring the user who created the topic not to be ashamed about it.
