Ok, i've posted my pics on this site over a month ago and pretty much everybody said i am gyned! Then i explained what gynecomastia is to my family (they think the gym would make 'em go away!) They made an appointment for a pretty good doctor for a check up + blood tests.. the doc said i do have a moderate case but nothing "major" as in it's not a health issue but it really fu**s up my self esteem w/out a shirt. Now my fam wants a second opinion from a specialist so I was referred to an endocrinologist who is a "specialist" on these things. anyways my question is will this guy try to tell my fam theres another way to make the gyne less noticable, because my fam is completely against me & they really believe there is another way besides surgery, will this fu**ing idiot "specialist" take my fams side & make it really seem like surgery isn't necessary? the reason i think this is because the first doc wouldn't gimme a straight answer then i told her i need to  know for sure no bs, then she asks me, "will ur mom hate me if i say u do have it" wtf is that all about?! so what do i do in my situation the appointment is 2 weeks away  :-\

...Then i explained what gynecomastia is to my family (they think the gym would make 'em go away!)...

That's something all too common with parents/family who are uneducated on the matter.  It takes more than just one or two explanations for some people to finally get it.   Surgery is the only realistic option unless you're still in puberty and have had the gyne for less than a year, in which case there may still be a chance of its resolving itself.

...my question is will this guy try to tell my fam theres another way to make the gyne less noticable, because my fam is completely against me & they really believe there is another way besides surgery, will this fu**ing idiot "specialist" take my fams side & make it really seem like surgery isn't necessary? the reason i think this is because the first doc wouldn't gimme a straight answer then i told her i need to  know for sure no bs, then she asks me, "will ur mom hate me if i say u do have it" wtf is that all about?! so what do i do in my situation the appointment is 2 weeks away  :-\

Unfortunately, some (most) GP's seem to be just as uneducated about gynecomastia as the general population.  IF the specialist doesn't take your side, then it would make good sense for you to convince the specialist to recommend to your family to at least consult with a gynecomastia-experienced plastic surgeon.   That way, "just in case" the gym doesn't work, then you would know what some of your options would be.  We all know the gym won't fix what I saw in your pictures, but putting it that way would be respectful of your family's opinion, but would possibly influence your family to get in front of a professional who's educated and experienced in the world of gyne.  A friendly professional may be able to get through to your mom.

I'm amazed and appalled at your doctor for basing her advice to your mom on whether or not it might make your mom hate her.  That's not only unprofessional, but absolutely childish and she should be embarrassed for asking such an idiotic thing.

i can afford this surgery myself w/ no problem but i am 20 yrs old & my family is really big on what decisions i make but the doctor who referred me to this new guy said he's a "specialist"... i mean if the ignorant doctor i saw said i have a moderate case of it & it is definately there but she emphasized that it isn't a bad case meaning it's not gonna gimme breast cancer or what not(no sh*t!) - So if she noticed the gyne then the specialist definately would notice it right?? Sorry for the repetitive questions.. i am just nervous thinking this idiot specialist will side w/ my family & forget that it is tearing away @ my self esteem & forever keeping me self concious no matter how baggy i can wear a t-shirt...

It may be better to consult with a plastic surgeon than general doctors regarding whether it is needed or not. They are better trained to notice what is a contour men find acceptable and maaybe can convince them better. It could just be fat based in which case the endo wont find anyuthing but u would still want to do it.

I guess if u tell them how many things in your life it affects, they may be more willing.

Most of us are getting the surgery to have a stress free life in all environments rather than avoid a medical condition. You need to emphasize that regardless of all the hormones and bloodwork being normal...this still affects my life and I want to be rid of it.

Finally, if you can afford it, u shd just go ahead and ask them to be supportive.

They're all scared sh!tless about me getting under the knife which is normal because they're very old fashioned. Although i am paying for it, they won't let me get it until the 2nd opinion comes in.. i am a little confused by "fat-based" gyne, does this mean i can just lose weight & it will go away? Cause my family understands the whole "it's glandular tissue not fat hence no work outs can help!" but if they find out it's just fat that can be taken away by diet & exercise then the surgery is a no-go.... I know their are two types of gyne but don't know the details!  ???

An obese man may have extra fat stored in the chest as well as the belly, legs, etc.  Some of these obese men appear to have manboobs just because of the extra fat.   That doesn't mean that they don't have a component of gland, since most men do.

Anyway, as I said earlier, I looked at your pictures and you don't fit that description.

Almost every gynecomastia case has components of both fat AND gland.  The ratios may be different in different men, but they are both there nonetheless.   The idea of "pseudogynecomastia" implies that gyne is either gland-based or fat-based, neither of which, IMO, are totally accurate descriptions of breasts, whether male or female.

The only way you're going to get rid of your case of gyne is to have a gyne-experienced PS remove the fat and gland surgically.  You can't work off your breasts any more than your mom can work off hers.

Lets see here:

Your family is against you.

The first Doctor does not think the condition is significant enough to warrant surgery but at your insistance has referred you to a specialist. Because this doctor did not agree with you, You have declared the Dr. to be an Idiot.

You have decided in advance that the specialist you have been referred to is also an Incompetent Idiot.

I think you need one more referral, to a Psychologist. I'm not saying that just to be funny. The Psychologist would be totally impartial and could explain things to your family if there truly is a condition worthy of Surgery. If the condition is less Gynecomastia and more toward Body Dysmorphic Disorder, The Psychologist could help you cope with it. Either way, you win.

Ok the first Doc i saw was just for a quick physical - after explaining that my family is against surgery & how bad it affects me & how sure i am i have it after discovering this website, she completely eludes the fact about how self-conscious i am & asks asks me if my mother would hate her if she agree's i have it. it was as if she didn't wanna say i have it, i literally had to say, " DO I HAVE ANY FORM OF GYNECOMASTIA", then she replies, "Yes, i can feel the glandular tissue". Then this same Doc refers me to her "friend" that happens to be an endo (specialist) that is down the hall, from my experience w/ her i became afraid this other guy would wanna side w/ my family as well, therefore i said he's an idiot w/o even giving him a try! But as far as the psychological part of it goes... i'm not an ugly guy, not to be cocky but i'm far from fat & the lord has blessed me w/ a handsome face but tagged on these boobs as part of the package, only reason i don't post pics w/ my face in them is because nobody else here does lol & everyone always told me that it's probably 'cause ppl have pointed them out. to be honest i am the only person who notices them until i point them out for ppl or i take off my shirt.. i'm sure everybody here agrees that what you think of yourself matters not other ppl, hence i have every reason to get this surgery except breast cancer =).

As above ...

Who cares what your parents think? Fact of the matter is Gynecomastia is a problem THAT needs to be rectified. No point living if your half dead mate! Live once, so do it properly!
