Ok I might be able to get my gyne surgery insured by this one doctor that my family knows.  I'm going to be talking to him this week to see what everything is about.  The only thing I don't like is I don't know if he has performed any gyne surgeries, and if he hasnt performed very many at all can I trust him to do a good job.  I know it migh be getting insured but I'd rather pay for a good job then get a shitty job for free considering it's with me for the rest of my life.  Don't get me wrong I was incredibly happy when I heard about this but now I might be unsure of if I want to get this surgery done by this man; I don't even know his name.  What can I ask him to ensure that he's legit?

Questions to ask include:

What do you consider your specialist areas?

<Many surgeons do possibly a couple of hundred breast reductions/mastectomies/augmentations a year, but only two or three male chest reductions.  Ask what his or her caseload for MCR is.  My surgeon for example performs around 200 operations a year, almost half of which are for MCR.>

How often do your MCR patients return for revision surgery?  How does this compare with other surgeons that perform MCR?

<My surgeon reported one in ten come back for some kind of revision>

What technique do you use.  What other methods do other surgeons use and why do you use the one you use?

<This question will really test his knowledge - all the better if you know of commonly used/new techniques>

What happens if the outcome does not meet my expectation?

<Will he do a free revision?>

Do you have any before and after pics of past patients for MCR?

<This is a fundamental request.  If he does not have any, walk!>

Hope that helps.

DO NOT get the surgery by someone who has never done it before!  Also, my first gyno operation, the PS told me that insurance will cover it.  They did not and refused all appeals.

Thanks for the responses.  Yeah I'm going to make sure he has performed the surgery before and maybe even request some pics?  I'll keep all those questions in mind.  Thanks again.
