Hi basic,
It is usual for endocrinologists to diagnose the form of hypogonadism prior to prescribing treatment as mentioned by gyno51, this is quite important as it can affect the form of treatment that you can work for you.
Hopefully you saw an endocrinologist and not just a physician and they made this diagnosis, but just didn't inform you?
It would be useful to find out if your doctor did this.
If he did not do this, then I think it would be an idea to get a referal to an endocrinologist for better guidance. If you tell me where you are in Canada, I might be able to help in locating an endocrinologist who specialises in these matters.
Regarding your testosterone level, if 4.3 is in the European serum testosterone reference range of nmol/l then that is a very low figure indeed. If you could clarify with any additional details I could help more.
Do you know the name of the product you are being prescribed? It would be very helpful to know, as differing forms of treatment convert differently to estradiol.
e.g
Sustanon for instance results in higher estradiol levels than Nebido.
if you already have gynecomastia this is very important, as you do not wish to exacerbate the problem.
In short the form of therapy you are on absolutely can have an impact on your gynecomastia, either positively and negatively.
If you are on one of the older indictables then you will almost certainly wish to switch to a form a therapy that converts less to estradiol otherwise the gynecomastia could get worse.
Another issue for you will be;
Is the dosage correct for you?
For this you need to be tested on treatment again preferably by an endocrinologist and detail your symptoms or the lack of them. Very often people are on too low a dose and continue to muddle through life with unnecessary ills that could be easily avoided with correct treatment.
P.S
You are not alone I have hypogonadism and so do many others. Below is a support group that you can join and get help from and a resource site for sufferers below that.
