How is this done?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op.  I still feel numb after a few minutes out of the vest.  I was running my fingers over some hard tissue (pushing on it)  and I heard/felt a "squish".  Is this what massage is supposed to do?  Or did I screw myself up?

Feels kind of weird now.

I am in the hook/velcro type of vest.  Do you switch to more of a t shirt type vest after a certain time?  I hate wearing this thing.  It kind of chafes.  Not sure if it's on too tight or not tight enough.  There's some slack right on my breast bone near the top.  It's on as tight as it can get.
