Hi,

I recently let my parents know that I want to have Gynecomastia surgery.  My case is extremely mild, hardly noticeable, however it does bring me pain and discomfort sometimes, which is the leading factor in why I want to have this done.  So my mom wants me to see my family doctor before I go ahead with the surgery.  I have no problems with this, I'm just worried the doctor might try to talk me out of it, is there anything I can tell the doctor that will convince him that I need this surgery, other than flat out stating that I am getting this surgery with or without his approval?  How did others approach their family doctors (if they did) before this surgery?

Thanks.

Dude, you're 19. You don't need your Mom's permission or your GP's approval. Just call a PS who specializes in GRS and set up a consultation.  ;)

I didn't bother going to my GP. I went directly to Dr. Fielding. Called up his office and made an appointment for a consult.

I know I don't have to, my parents want me to however.  As long as I'm living under their roof, I have to abide by their rules, so that's why I asked.

most doctors would prob talk you out of it, saying that your nipple is normal and such. My family doctor told me that I didn't have it either, but once I stepped into fielding's office, and he examined me and said "You do have an obvious case of gladular gyne etc.."

It's all subjective tho...  What really matters is how you feel and not what others think...

Take for example... Some guys hate being bald. They go to great lengths to cover it up or take medications in an attempt to regrow their hair or stop it from falling out further. Me on the other hand, shave my head bald. It's a great feeling having no hair. I don't see what the big deal is about being bald or going bald. But then that is just me. For others, they may feel differently towards baldness, and that's cool. Everyone has their own views and feelings.

oh that i know, but in the case of gynecomastia what i find weird is that we are often talking about a diagnostic and not just something you like or dont like about yourself.
my doctor told me that he could not diagnose gynecomastia which is a know medical condition whereas doctor Fielding with a simple look at my chest told me i was a definit mild to severe case of gynecomastia... medically, who's right ?

who cares? you might tell me... true, i was just wondering lol...

As for my case, even if it is still way to early to judge, it seems like even after revision, i still have this thing...i'm getting frustrated now... but trying to stay patient.

Dr. Fielding, or any other PS, is a specialist and is in a much better position to diagnose the condition than a GP.
