  • Gyne free, is the way to be!
There are different kindas like psuedo (spelling eror) and glandular. Having one kind or the other or both doesn't mean it will be worse. Some people many have lots of fat and no gland. Only gland. OR both gland and fat. The degree of the growth of it is what matters.
For example, an obese peoson many have gynecomastia made up of a lot of fat. The patient probably will need skin excised as well as lipo, where as a person with both to a slight degree may only need lipo and excision of gland and no skin excsied. Age also plays a key role, due to the skins elastisicity.

jn2k2,

The answer is yes, and no.

This is somewhat over simplified,  but it will give you a general idea.

Pre-Puberty, the male and female breasts are quite identical.

Two things are usually involved, Estrogen causes the breasts to grow while Testosterone tends to attenuate breast growth.

Men and women have both kinds of hormones, so it is the balance or ratio that influences breast growth.

Boys often have some breast growth in early puberty until their hormones get stabilized. This would be glandular tissue,  in fact it is milk producing glands and ductwork.  The spaces between the sections of glandular tissue are filled with fat.  This is the type of Gynecomastia which often goes away before the lad is through his teens

The other kind of breast growth is due to obesity.  It is common for men to have fatty deposits in the breast area,  even to the point of having rounded contouring of the breasts.  Here is where it starts to get complicated.  You see Testosterone can be changed into Estrogen in the fat cells.   This could cause glandular tissue to grow within the fat. Weight reduction will reduce the breast size very slightly, but even starvation will not usually suceed in complete removal.

It becomes a question like whether the chicken or the egg came first.

Either way, it is probably fair to say that usually, at least to some degree, it is both gland and fat.

Breast growth in boys and men is usually quite normal. Again there is a multiple choice.  There are rare instances where it is a symptom of disease,  So it is always wise to see a doctor just to be sure.  Then there are yet more choices.  Some guys cope with their breasts quite well.  Some suffer mental torment resulting in social isolation etc. This anguish is very real and is the same regardless of the mechanism which caused the breast growth.
