Hey i was wondering if anyone knew how accurate cardio machines were at calculating calorie usage.....like treadmills, ellipticals, and more specifically this cross trainer....it said i burnt around 500 calories in 40 minutes. I weight about 210.

Try buying a heart rate monitor... it tells you the calories you burn and your heart rate...

I live by those counters.

I diet strictly and count not only every calorie I eat but those I burn too.  They are pretty accurate as long as you input your correct age and weight.

Every week I add all the calories I burn up and subtract out my intake.  Each week when I weigh in I have an idea based on the calories how much I SHOULD lose.  Most often it is within about a 1/2 pound of my calculation.

One thing i have found CYBEX Arc Trainers burn more calories per hour than any treadmill or eliptical I have found, by far.

At 205lbs I can easily burn 1200/hr, and if I push it, as much as 1400.  The reason is your heart rate climbs faster because your legs have a greater range of motion when set at the highest incline.

Best machine ever for burning calories!!!
