I'm going to have surgery by Dr. Gregory Ward on June 27th.  He's just outside the Chicago area.

I'll let you know how it goes.

My Freind at the gym had surgery by Dr. Pensler in Chicago 6 weeks ago and looks great. I have an appointment with him in two weeks.

I am hopefully going to get my surgery done by a Dr. Lowenstein in a few weeks. Got to go to my appointment first to get insurance coverage for my gyne. He does mostly womens breast reductions but, I have read he is very talented and one of the best PS in Milwaukee. If he is good at breast reduction for women he probably has done gyne ops before and probably is very skilled at these also. Have to check him out first though. Seeing him on the 19th.

Hey, I'm from Chicago as well, were you guys able to cover the procedure with your insurance company?  If so, which insurance company do you guys use?

I'm in Chicago as well. I am thinking of going to see Dr. Bermant in Virginia. I already had the surgery once by a local and am disappointed with the results. So I want to find someone else.

Who did you see in Chicago that you were unhappy with?  I live in Chicago and am planning on having the surgery within a few months.  I would like to think there is a top notch guy in Chicago (it is a big city, right) but if I am not 100% sure of that, I will travel to who I think the best is.  So, who in Chicago were you unhappy with and who do you think the best in the country is?  Any advice would help a lot..thanks.

I didn't think insurance covered this. I would also be interested in any good surgeons in this area.

Any updates here by anyone who has had surgery recently or planning to have surgery in the Chicago area?

Thank you.  Please do let me know about your experience.  Dr. Pensler seems to be the most reccomended in the Chicago area.  Obviously you were impressed by your consultation with him.  Did you feel he spent enough time with you during the consultation and answered all your questions?

I'm another person who can personally verify that Dr. Pensler does excellent work.  I'm 16 months post-op and still quite pleased with the results and the whole experience.

David or anyone else on here that has used Dr. Pensler, it would be great if we could see before and after pics.

I just met with Pensler.  He was nice, but I felt that he was vague and in a rush.  I did not feel that "bond" that people talk about on here. (One plus is that he did call me back after I left a message with a question I forgot to ask.) However, he seems to have the most experience in the Chicago area and has a good reputation.  I feel conflicted on this.  If there is a guarantee that he will do a great job, I could care less how personable and vague he is.  Is there anyone that is biased one way or the other towards Pensler?  Most of the blogs support him, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there.

I know what you mean..  and there are really no guarantees.  I just assumed that b/c I have been pouring over this site his explanations seemed vague.  I know that someone on here was unhappy with Pensler but didn't really post anything about it.  Perhaps you can find his posts and PM them.  Of course it would be nice if they posted for us all to see.  Good Luck.

One other note:
Prior to the consult he had emailed me the approximate cost: $4,650.  After the consult, when they were explaining costs, I noticed an additional charge of $400 for a facility fee.  When I asked why that was not included in the original approximate cost, I was told that sometimes people choose a hospital for their facility and that could run up to $2,000.  I kind of understand that, but I felt they were being misleading by not including the $400 fee.  They should have said it would be approximately $5,050 because no matter what you will be paying at least $400 in facility fees.

Now you may be saying, "Big deal, what's another $400."  My point is that they were shady about it.  I think that they intentionally hide the fee so that they can stay under 5K when trying to get you in for a consult.

My wife made the point that most plastic surgeons are shady, because the majority went into this field for the money, not to save lives.  I mean watch the Dr. 90210 guys.  They are all pricks, BUT... they do an awesome job.  So, once again I am conflicted with Dr. Pensler.  Deep down I do not trust him as a person, but can he be trusted as a surgeon?  I am looking for any feedback.

Thanks

I haven't spoken to Pensler but I agree with this post, based on my intuition.

Anybody have anything negative to say about Pensler?

I decided to go with my gut, and I picked Dr. Turowsky.  I have talked to some people on here about Pensler, and they were not happy with the results.  One guys was even life threatening.  I am not sure why he did not want to post it, but for whatever reason, he asked me not to mention his name or the details.
I have my pre-op this week and my surgery in two weeks.  Turwosky knew what he was talking about, and I trusted him in our conversation.  In the way he carried himself and talked to me, I could tell that he truly invested in his work.  I felt like he sees each person as a piece of art that he wants to perfect.(I know that is kind of cheesy, but I did not know how else to explain it.)  I just felt like an individual not a number to tally for surgeries.

Now, I will find out how good he really is in a couple of weeks.  I will let you know my results.
