Title: Surgery with Dr. Delgado
Post by: saobando on May 19, 2010, 01:00:52 AM
I have been looking at various posts from this website the last week. I am concern with mix emotions about having surgery. Although I am certain that I chose the best surgeon to get rid of my gynecomastia, I feel excited, confused, nervous, and anxious. After reading many comments about the surgery on this website, I just wanted to report my experience and hopefully help other people feel confident to have chosen to get rid of this "chain." I am going to have the operation in a little over two weeks, and will write more about this amazing experience. I can't believe that I waited about 25 years to make this decision, but then I didn't know it was a common condition for many people. My hat is off to all the courageous people who have decided to have the surgery done and I hope people find happiness for whatever choice they make in regards to their condition - current and future gyno sufferers.

Well, today I went to his office for the preop visit. I paid $6801.00 for the surgery, which is $200.00 less than what I was quoted 6 months ago. It wasn't much of a saving, but anything coundt nowadays :).  The doctor seemed confindent, and I didn't feel like I was being rushed. I didn't ask many questions because this website tells you just about every in regards to the surgery experience. I mentioned him that I have read posts from his previous patients writing about different levels of pain after coming off the anesthesia and he confirmed what I already knew. People have different tolerance levels when it comes to pain. Frankly, at this point, I don't really care if a bleed, throw up or defecate after coming out the anesthesia. I just want this boobs reaped off from my chest ;D. I will tell you about the big day when it happens.

Gamer7 - He was not booked that far (6 months). I just didn't have the money until now to schedule the surgery.
Nate83 - I m aquite confident that we found if not the best gynecomastia surgean, he is one of the best.
LAgyne - I will try to keep in mind taking pictures to show and thanks for the encouragement.

Yes bros,

I only have 3 more days to go for "the moment of truth." I will try to give as many details as possible. It can't be that bad. Surprisingly, I am not very nervous because I am trying to keep things in perspectives that other people have mentioned in this site.
- It is not a complicated surgery like a brain or heart surgery.
- I will call love ones on "that day."
- If many women can add a silicone on their chest for breast augmentation, gyno removal can't be as complicated.
- 2 days  to 5 weeks of pain or discomfort is worth it when it comes to a life changing event. Yes, no more baggy shirts, no more selfconciousness such as is someone looking at my chest, and yes, the liberating idea that I will be able to go to the beach shirtless will be heavenly 8).
Anyway, I will stop here and will write in a few days.

It is over!!!!!!!!!!!!
My surgery was yesterday at 11am and arrived at 9am.
My the boobs are gone. I am flat. I am more elated that words can express.
My surgery experience in Novato, California surpassed my expectations.
I drove from Redwood City to Novato in about 1 hour and a half. I was able to leave my car parked there for a few days. As I enter Dr. Delgado's facility, I thought it was more like a hotel than a hospital. I felt as if I were in Spa: everything look very clean and organized, and there were two beutiful women who were friendly by the front desk (Arin and Colleen). The nurses were very informative and projected confidence. Dr. Gaynor took his time to answer all my questions and had a pleasant dimeanor. Dr. Delgado seemed very confident and was ready to rock and roll, and so was I.

Initially, Caroline, the nurse asked me many questions about my health conditions. I changed into the gown and cap for surgery. I was completely naked underneath. I proceded to meet with Dr Gaynor who asked more questions about my health and asked what kind of music I liked so he played "Mana" for me. As he was injected the medicine in the IV bag, I realized I was going to be a gonner in a few minutes. So last thing I remember is that I was walking with him to the bathroom and I blacked out.

I woke up plesantly in the post-op room. My chest was slightly sore. A feeling that get the day after having work out on my chest an hour at the gym. I saw the recovery nurse who I don't remember her name but she was very informative and helpful.

LAgyne - The first week was the most uncomfortable because I had to walk the first two days with the drain. I had to empty the drain about 3 times a day. My mother helped me write the amount of fluid that we poured out of the bulbs, which I had squeezed once it order to continue draining the fluid.

I knew that when Dr. Delgado pull the drains out wasn't going to be pleasant so I prepared by taking two vicodine pills. Even with the vicodine I could feel a burning sensation and as if a snake was coming out from underneath my skin. He asked, "are you ready?" and I said I think so. He said,"come on, you are men." So I replied, yes I am, come on! do it. He was done in about 3 to 5 minutes.

I received a thinner and more comfortable vest, which wasn't as noticeable as the bulky one with the drains. From what I understood, the vest with drains was designed by Dr. Delgado, which can carry ice packet on your chest t reduce the swelling. The vest also has two pocket, which carry the two bulbs where the fluid from the drains are stored.

I have my last postop visit with Dr. Delgado next Friday. I asked him previously to let me have the preop and postop pictures that he will take so I can post them on this website. However, for the post op pics, I need to wait a few weeks after I am completely healed.

Hello GynoCurious,

I appreciate your concern. I am 38 years old, and I was probably 15 pounds over my ideal weight during surgery. I could not tell you exactly how much it was removed, but I can tell you that my gyno was mild compare to other pictures I have seen. Dr. Delgado's fee is pricey, and I am barely making ends meet, but I highly recommend him. Also, his office is in San Francisco so it is convenient for you. Since I am a substitute teacher, I decided to have the surgery when school is out so I didn't have a problem on that regard. I consulted with about 5 doctors from Southern California and Dr. Delgado. I chose him because he took his time during consultation,  he seemed very confident, he has had the most experience with gyno and he has a pleasant demeanor. He is a great Doctor, but he also has a great team.

Thanks for the info saobando. Hope the outcome will be superb.

So, you stayed at the hotel for 7 nights and met him on the 2nd day to remove the drains and probably on the 5th or 6th day? And you have to go back there for one-month post-op evaluation? Is that it or there are more visits required?
Sorry to keep asking for details.

I'm loosing weight right now: 210 to 165 for 5'10", mid 30s in 7 months with watching what I eat and hardcore workout. Muscles, veins and six-pack started to show as well as the g-gland!! I probably gonna wait a few more months and get it done after I stabilize my weight and put aside some $.

LAgyne,

I parked my car in the facility's parking lot, and told a lady name "Kitty" from the hospital side of the building my car information so it would be towed. I left it there for a week, but my brother and mother picked me up to take me back to Redwood City right after the surgery. My brother took me on the 2nd day to get the drains out in Dr. Delgado's clinic in San Francisco, not Novato. Tomorrow he will see me for the last time. I short, after my sugery, I only get to see Dr Delgado two times. There is no need to see him to have the sutures removed since they are desolvable.

I am healing quite fast, but I followed everything he recommended including the supplements. I feel tight on my chest. I just have to work on my gut so they both match  ;D. I feel like I can move just the way I used to before the surgery.

I feel like am being reborn by having a flat chest. It is terrific. I wish you the same for you man.

wow i just got my quote back from delgado this week and its a good thousand more then yours.  when i called in they said it could be any where from 7 - 8 thousand.  After he looked at my pictures he quoted 7,800.  i was kind of surprised because my case isnt very bad.

I don't know how they base their rates. I was quoted 7400 but, paid 7200 after all was settled. You still have to get lab work and medication done which for me added another $100 to $150. Still worth it. I could of went cheaper in the area but, this was not a time to be cheap. I wanted the best. Its not like a bad haircut that can grow out. I have to live with the results for ever and I wanted perfection.

i want it done the right way the first time.  its just getting steep fast and hope its worth it.  i think with traveling, hotel, and all ill be up near 9,000 when im all done.  i keep crossing my fingers that his office made a mistake and include the travel package in my quote lol.

I had my surgery with Delgado, and I paid more than that, though I had a little lypo done on my sides.

I was also quoted less from many other doctors, but at the end of the day, I felt Delgado had the most experience.    You cant go wrong and there's no price on something you're going to live with for the rest of your life.
