Had a blood test.

Testosterone came out normal.
Everything else came out normal... except...

My estrogen was slightly over the normal amount... normal was 130 ... mine was 138.

Should I be worried?

That seems rather high, but you are still just marginally above the regular range.  Some guys are 2-3x the top of the range around the 300 level.

I would take ZMA as a daily supplement and see if that lowers your estrogen levels slightly.  You can take ZMA every night like a multivitamin.

ZMA = Zinc, Magnesium, B-6

The proportion of ingredients generally used in products is 20-30 mg Zinc, 400-500 mg Magnesium and ~10mg B6.

This supplement should never be taken with calcium, as calcium blocks the absorption of zinc.  ZMA should also be taken before bed on an empty stomach (2 hours after eating your last meal and at least 30 minutes prior to any other supplements).

You are just marginally high so I would not worry too much ZMA can help you out.  If it was worse I would suggest 6-oxo or RXT, but that's not necessary at your levels.

My estrogen was tested twice and it came back 40 once and 10 the second time.   So your levels seem rather high to me.

when you say estrogen, is that estradiol, or something else, specifically?

Some people say Estrogen when what they actually mean is all form of estrogen; the word is used collectively.

Similarly, the word Testosterone is sometimes also used in a collective way and may include dihydrotestosterone etc.

The 130 figure was not probably the Normal, but the upper range of normal. meaning that you tested clear outside of the normal range. You say your Testosterone is "Normal" but if it was on the low end of normal the relationship of Estrogen: Testosterone could still be way off.

What you need is to have the tests evaluated by an endocrinologist who specializes in reproductive problems.

Perhaps Hypo will weigh in on this. He is much more up on these things than anyone else here.

Good Luck!

When I (or most people) say estrogen they are referring to Estradiol.

Most people don't bother with estrone or estriol.  Estradiol is the main culprit when it comes to gyno.

Does anyone know how long it takes for your normal hormone levels to bounce back to normal after years of heavy alcohol abuse. my addiction specialist said 4-6 months. the reason i am asking is because i got the results from my recent blood work and it showed a slightly low test level but the doc said my estro levels were ok. by the way, now i am on tamoxifen for the gyne. what should i expect to happen with my testosterone in the future?should i supplement anything or give it time? i also read somewhere that tamoxifen actually increases testosterone production... true?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

The normal estradiol range varies from test-to-test.  Usually with your test results you will also get a normal range along side your results.

Lab Corp uses two different estradiol scales depending on which lab tests the blood, according to these two scales the normal level for an adult male would be:

<54 (under 54)

or

40-115 (between 40 and 115)

depending on the specific test done.

I'd be extremely worried if I were you.

Hormone tests are only a vague indicator. So when diagnosing endocrine problems you have to look at the overall symptoms combined with the blood test results.

If you didn't have gynecomastia this result would be nothing to worry about. But you do have gynecomastia. That makes the "high normal" estrogen level a serious red flag.

You could very possibly have a testicular tumor. Testicular tumors often secrete estrogen and cause gynecomastia.

picogram/mL is the unit of measurement for an estradiol test.

puff daddy,

Alcohol is a double whammy when it comes to Gynecomastia.

We all have a small amount of Estradiol and the place where this is neutralized is in the liver. Alcohol is very hard on the liver and elevated levels of Estradiol are a common result.

Alcohol is also quite toxic to the testes. So low Testosterone levels also are a result.

Each of us is an individual, the usual forecast of recovery time is based on averages. Your mileage may differ.
