Title: 15 w/ Puffy Nipples
Post by: NH on February 17, 2009, 11:19:00 AM
I first got puffy nipples in 7th grade, I guess when puberty started. I was overweight, but I'm confident that it's genetic because my father has gyne and so does my brother, who is very thin. I have a couple of small issues. First, I've been doing cardiovascular exercise for the past two weeks and I'm dropping weight pretty quickly. The nipples have become less noticeable as I've lost fat in my chest, but I'm not sure what's going to happen when I lose the last few pounds. I understand that the gland does not go away, but is it possible the nipples will flatten out? I understand many doctors on here say that it doesn't change, but my father's were puffy at my age and flattened out later in his teenage years, so I already know that it's possible for the nipples to flatten. My puberty isn't over yet...what should I do?

You're right, puberty isn't over yet for you!  There is still a chance that your gyne could go away on its own.  Don't get your hopes up too much though.  But at least you know why you have it and your family members can understand what you're dealing with.  The fact that your Dad's gyne dissipated on its own is a good sign.  The same could happen for you and your brother.

However, weight loss will help the rest of your body.  Unfortunately, significant weight loss can cause the gyne to stand out more.  As long as there is excessive gland in each breast, your nipples will protrude from your chest as you explained.  Puffy nipples will not go away unless the gyne goes away on its own or surgery is involved.

Do not let me discourage you from losing weight though.  Go right ahead and use your chest as a motivational tool.  So that way if your gyne goes away you'll look good or if you get surgery you'll be physically ready.

Good luck!

I don't believe the glands are very big (each about the size of a quarter?), and I've got big bones/shoulders so I'm hoping that will bring down the visibility of the gyne. I'm also not sure if my father's gyne actually went away or if his nipples just flattened out (I think they just flattened...) but he told me it was around the time he lost some weight as a teenager. Does anyone have a story in which their nipples flattened? I understand my chest may still be slightly distorted from the gyne (thankfully the glands aren't too large, as I said earlier) but as long as the nipples don't show through t-shirts I'm happy.

Good for you then.  I think if you lose the weight and give it time, your chest will become a thing of the past.  Even if there is a problem,  I'm guessing it's so small it doesn't bother you that much.
