cortisone shot for scar tissue?

At my lst checkup the PS said i might need a cortisone shot in order to break up the scar tissue. Ive got quite a bit on the left side, and its left it looking exactly like it did before (puffy nips)

My question is, has anyone had this cortisone shot? Whats involved (pain, recovery time, etc)? And did it work?
