Hey everyone, I'm supposed to be having surgery in roughly six weeks. I'm 6'0 and currently weight 241 pounds, this puts me at a BMI of 32.7 (Obese, apparently). Will having the procedure done at this weight, with plans to lose weight afterwards have any negative impacts? Or would I be better advised to start my weight loss goals before the surgery? Are there any negative impacts of doing that?

I posted a thread here awhile back with some pictures. The pictures are taken of me when I was 20 pounds lighter. Finding out that I had gyno really put a damper on my very consistent workout plans. I felt like there was no point, and now I'm sadly back up to 241 pounds and struggling a lot to get back into the workout mentality. Anyhoo, the thread is here if the pictures will help: https://www.gynecomastia.org/smf/index.php?topic=21067.msg143143#msg143143

Thanks folks. =]

if I were you, I'd hit the gym before the surgery.  once you get the surgery, you're not going to be able to comfortably work out for a month or so, so might as well start working on your weight loss goals.

I agree with  moropheus11.

Although you are overweight, there is no harm in exercising, losing weight and getting into the best shape that you can prior to surgery.  On the other hand, you don't want to go on some strange and unhealthy diet.  But eating properly, exercising and watching your weight can only be of help.

And then after surgery, once you have crossed to the other side, I would strongly recommend you continue.  The loss of your gyne should actually spur you to continue to lose weight and eventually obtain the chest that you desire.

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!
