Hi
I had surrgey 8 days ago and all went well other than waking up the next night with a numbness in my arm and fingers.

It seemed to go away for a day or two but the last 4/5 days has returned and is now occuring in both arms and sometimes in the leg/foot.

My surgeon says its nothing to worry about and isn't related to the op but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Patients sometimes wake up after a long surgery with tingling in their hands and fingers because their arms have been stretched out to their sides on armboards for an extended period of time. There can be a little stretching of the long nerves that lead to the hands from the armpit or axilla.  This most often affects the ring and small finger.  It usually subsides within a few days.  Not sure what could be causing numbness in your feet.  If this persists you need to talk with your surgeon about it. There could be something else going on.
