Post by: mmaman on March 14, 2007, 01:54:21 AM
I had a consultation with a surgeon and he said that he has never used drains for gyne surgery. How common is this?

Pretty much everyone wakes up with drains in as far as I know, unless your just getting excision, prolly wouldnt need it then.

The need for drains depends on the complexity of the surgery, skill of the surgeon, techniques used, and other factors.  Revision Gynecomastia Surgery (http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/revision_gynecomastia/index.html) can be more complex with a greater chance to need drains. With my Dynamic Technique (http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/procedure_folder/male_breast/chest_dynamic_sculpture.html), I typically do not need drains.  Actually it is quite rare I need to use a drain for all of my male chest sculpture.  I prefer methods that minimize bruising and swelling (http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/procedure_folder/male_breast/gynecomastia_healing.html) such that the need for drains just does not happen but a few times a year for all of the gynecomastia surgery I perform.

Hope this helps,
