hi,

i'm from bangalore and this is my first post here...am 28 years old and have gynecomastia since i was 13-14 years old...have finally decided to go ahead with surgery...

my physician said that the first step is to get my hormone level tested...got it done today...here are the results:

testosterone: 3.32 - acceptable range 3.0 to 10.6
progesterone: 0.71 - acceptable range 0.11 to 0.60
estrogen: 32.72 - acceptable range < 62

here are the questions that i have...will meet my physician tomorrow...so thought that i will ask you guys something before that...

1. is the testosterone very low? i know that its within range, but isn't it low...should i worry about it?

2. progesterone is out of range...what does this mean? my doctor had told me that if that turns out to be the case, i might have to go for an ultrasound of the abdomen? why? what is this hormone for?

3. should i get any more tests done? i basically dont want this thing to come back after surgery...

4. my doctor is a general physician...should i meet some hormone specialist? what are they called? does anyone know of a good one in bangalore?

thanks a lot in advance...want to get this hormone thing sorted out before i proceed with the surgery....

best regards,
am

Yes, i think your hormone count is pretty Low.
My testosterone level was 8.76

Why did the doctor make you do progesterone?
Estrogen is fine but why progesterone ?

An abnormally high level of progesterone raises suspicion of problems with the adrenal glands and some types of cancer.

Better check up quickly.Time is not in your favor. I advise you to go for an

abdominal CT or MRI as other tests often have high error levels.

A good Endocrinologist could be Dr. Prasanna  Hod- Endocrinology MS Ramiah Hospital.

Another one is Doctor Shivshankar- St Johns Hospital...If you visit him dont forget to mention ur elevated progesterone levels and ask for furthur investigations like blood tests to detect carcinomas (cancers).

Curie center of Oncology @ st.Johns is pretty neat.
