Hi guys,

I have been browsing through the forum and searching online for the cost and various methods to get this surgery done since it has been bothering me for YEARS. I can't afford 5 figure or close to 5 figure amount for this surgery by going to private clinic (I was quoted this price over the phone). Instead, I set a budget of 5k for myself by going the non-private way, but I was surprised by the actual amount I paid, in a good way.

Since I wasn't in a rush to get the surgery done, I went to a polyclinic and told the doctor I have enlarged breast tissue, and got a referral to any government hospital of my choice. I chose SGH (no special reason) and got an appointment within a month. *You have to take the first step! The rest is 'automated' as below:

1. First appointment with doc from breast clinic, scheduled blood test, mammogram and x-ray.
2. 2nd appointment with the same doc, mentioned some issue with hormones, got referred to endocrinology (hormones specialist).
3. Appt with Endo, scheduled blood test again but specify must be done in the morning when hormones are high.
4. Appt with Endo, hormones no issue, refer back to Breast clinic.
5. Appt with Breast Clinic, endo said ok so proceed to refer to Plastic Clinic.
6. Appt with Plastic, schedule surgery.
8. Went for pre-surgery checks and measurements for compression garments
9. Warded (depends on availability, cos surgery starts at 8.30am next day), proceed with surgery (~2 hrs), warded again.
10. Recovery etc.

I estimate I paid way less than $1000 cash and total wait since first step into polyclinic is less than 6 months. I only have to pay cash for the doctor appointments (~$40 each time), blood tests and compression garments (~$60 for 2?). Mammogram, X-rays and surgery are fully covered by Medisave/ Insurance. I am still awaiting reply from my insurance company, but even if not claimable, the cost of surgery is less than $2.5k, which is fully payable by Medisave. This op is considered NON-PLASTIC, I saw the categorization on the referral letter.  Since I went in as a subsidized patient, I can't get to choose doctor, but I get cheap rates instead.

I've talked with the docs and nurses during my stay in the hospital, they said thousands went through this surgery every year, very common op. The nurse asked why I never opt for surgery during my NSF period, she said she saw a lot of NSF come and do this surgery. If you do during NSF its totally free, use 11b see doctor is free. Btw, I was given 21 days hospitalization leave for this surgery, was given full body anesthesia for the op and stayed in a short-stay ward for 1 night.

How was the surgery like? I took a deep breathe, and its done. I have 2 drains attached to my chest to prevent accumulation of blood, but were removed within a week. I had lipo and gland removal done, insertion was made below the armpit area and I had fats at my lats area removed as well since doctor said it will affect how my chests look after operation.
Compression garments according to doctor must wear for 1 month, don't worry man, its very comfortable and not noticeable on the outside. I don't have any before/ after photos to share as I don't want to leave any evidence in my phone, haha, but seriously, its flat now compared to whatever I had before.

I hope my experience has been clear to you and will encourage those who are still hesitating to make this life changing decision. I probably wouldn't frequent this forum, but post your questions or PM me (might receive a notification on my email?), if you are lucky I might drop by

Hi!! The surgeon who operated on me was Dr J-a-n-n-a . As a non-private patient, I don't get to choose the doctor, so it was randomly assigned to me.
