Title: Weight gain immediatly after surgery
Post by: cheynerover on April 11, 2010, 04:16:33 PM
Is it normal to be 5 to 10 lbs heavier 3 days after surgery. Is it from the water and bloating? I have not had a bowel movement either since the pain pills?

maybe the pain meds are clogging you up.

I didnt gain any weight, nor did my friend who had this done also.

They pump saline in during surgery (at least in my case), so that's probably the cause.

There are many physiologic factors involved here, but bottom line is that the body retains water after surgery, which results in apparent weight gain.  This is a normal bodily reaction.  OVer the next few days, the excess water will be eliminated and your weight will return to normal.

I gained like 10 lbs after rotator cuff surgery last summer, took about week to get it lost.  I was tripping, I didn't want it!

It came within 2 weeks.  Pain meds plug you up in a hurry...
