Hi,

I had surgery a few months ago and thought it would fall under the cosmetic category and couldn't be used as a medical deduction, but after talking with my psychologist yesterday he told me he isn't positive but believes it could be used as a deduction due to the psychological effects of gynecomastia.  Now this is a sensitive matter that I don't really want to talk about with my accountant so I'm just wondering if anyone on this board could give me an answer?

Thanks

Cosmetic surgery is not usually considered a tax deductible medical expense.  But out of pocket costs for necessary surgery could be construed as tax deductible.  I suggest you speak to your accountant about this.
