I had my gynecomastia surgery 3 weeks ago and my areola sizes and shapes are noticeably different.  I wanted to find out if this is normal and if they are going to look somewhat more the same in time.  The smaller areola side does have some more swelling and a deep bruised nipple.  Prior to the surgery they both looked the same but had the glands beneath them.

If you did not have skin excision to reduce the size of the areola, it's unlikely that any size difference now is permanent.  Rather, it may be related to the swelling you're describing, and as that resolves, they should appear more symmetric.
