In many if not most cases, the shrinkage is apparent almost immediately. Afterwards, however, there can be swelling which causes the areola to appear distended at times.  This can wax and wane for months before it stops occurring.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Silverman. What do you think of this responses from other doctors?

The areolae will shrink and you should see a difference within three months. You are still very swollen from the operation and have to give it time.

The areola will shrink. However, it depends on the skin character of the areola and the aggressive nature on the removal of the tissue from underneath the areola skin. I would give it more time.

The shrinkage is a bit variable and within a few weeks of surgery some improvement should be noted.

I have noticed an average of 10-20%  decrease in the areolar diameter, visible virtually at the end of the operation.

If the areolae are stretched very large over a large gyne, then the percent shrinkage will be greater.  More normal sized areolas will shrink, but only minimally.
