My Dr has said that a blood test or lab work wouldn't be necessary. Should I pursue a CBC or anything like that on my own or is it not really necessary. I am healthy and have no issues health issues. I am a non smoker 6 ft tall 160lbs 36 years old.  Thanks for any input docs :)

Every surgeon has his own routine for clearing patients for surgery.  Some, as I do, like to have a complete picture of the patient, including some blood and urine tests.  Others may require less than that.  There is no right or wrong about this.

Over the years, while doing this screening, I have picked up some unexpected problems in patients who "never went to a doc because I feel fine."  Included was unexpected diabetes, a bleeding disorder, a leukemia, etc.

Bottom line, for me, having just a few blood tests to cover major potential problems is worthwhile.

Thank you sir. I did just have a blood test done for life insurance. Everything was fine but I did have a high urine creatinine level and a high specific gravity level. They said it was probably due to dehydration. I fasted the night before the test and I work outdoors in the southern heat haha. I need to drink more water. I haven't however had a CBC test so I was just curious. FYI they gave me the platinum coverage for life insurance so I have that going for me :)

In my area, healthy men under the age of 40 do not need any blood work before having anesthesia.
