March 29, 2005

Booked an appt. with Dr. Fielding this morning and it's set for May 2nd.  I asked the receptionist if I could get an earlier appointment and she said no, that they're booked solid.

"Gynecomastia is a dime a dozen" was her exact response.

I asked her some questions and this is is what I got:

All the procedures are done on a Wednesday.

If everything goes as planned after my first visit, I can book the surgery on the spot.  Wait time for surgery was approx. a month to two months.

She said to bring my health card with me.  If I'm a citizen of Ontario, some of the fees are taken care of.  She wouldn't go into detail as to what is taken care of or picing but she did make it clear that I won't have to pay for everything.  I'm hoping for around a $1000.

That's all I got out of her.  I will fill everyone in after I see the good Doctor.

I'll be honest with everyone who reads this.  I feel a lot better today knowing that I took the first steps in combatting this painful affliction.  I will post pictures but since my appt. is a month away, it might not  be for a while.

My advice to everyone who has this problem and it bothers the life out of them.  Go see a doctor.

Will post soon.

Just an update:

It's been 1 week since I've booked my appt. with Dr. Fielding.  I'm very upset with myself for not booking it earlier.  Summer will be here soon and if I can get on the operating table within the next 2 - 3 months, summer will be more than half over.  Not to mention healing time.  I don't think I will be taking the t-shirt off this year.

Plus, I have to wear that vest.   Thank God I have air conditioning.  I'm kicking myself for not looking into this thing earlier.   At least I can take my son to an indoor pool during the colder months to teach him to swim.

It's funny because it took someone else to point out my moobs to realise that I had them.  When I was 17, I didn't know such a thing existed.  I thought I just had rounder pecs.  Anyone here petrified when they divided up the basketball team into shirts and skins?  That happened to me once and thankfully, I was a shirt.

I once tried out for the police force and they did a caliper test on all the applicants.  The guys had to take their shirts off.  Myself and one other guy didn't.  I told the person performing the test that I had some bad scars and acne on my body that I was embarrassed about.  The other was in agreement with me.  It happened years ago and so quickly that I didn't look to see if he had moobs.  I was just trying to defend myself.

For one of the physical test, we had to run 2 km.  I placed 2nd in a field of 25 applicants.  The guy who won looked like he was an Olympian.  The point of this story is that I ran everyday in hope (and vain) trying to get rid of my gyne.  Hoping to sweat it off.  My weight has fluctuated throughout the years.  I almost decided once to get very fat and blame the moobs on my overeating.  That would have been stupid.

I'm in good shape now.  Since February of 2004, I've lost 17 pounds (212 to 195).  My pants size went from a 38 to an almost 34.  A lot of people have commented on my weight lost.  For me, if I still have my moobs, the weight loss almost doesn't matter.

Question:  I work out 3 times a week and I like to work out my chest.  If I'm (hopefully) going to have the surgery within 3 months, should I still be working out my chest?  Will the operation cancel out all the hard work I've done?

I'm feeling better everyday because I know there's a light at the end of this tunnel.

Will post pics on my next post.

I had my operation with Fielding - call the office back and get on the short list incase someone cancel's - I ended missing my intitial surgery because they over-booked the suregery room. Once I was placed on the stand-by list I got in the next week.

Yeah, I'm sure they see many Gyne cases. To us it is very personal but to them 'it's just another Gyne case'.

Sounds like 2 months is about the average. My wait time from consut to Op. day was 7 weeks.

Yeah, OHIP pays for the majority of the proceedure. OHIP does not pay for Lipo. You have to pay for that yourself. $1000 sounds about right. My cost was $1280 including GST.

Good for you! You'll feel even better when your moobs are gone! ;)

;) Been there done that! In grade six I rember very well being chosen as a 'skin' which I was praying that I wouldn't be. We were playing indoor soccer and I was in net. I can remember two girls staring at me because of my moobs :-[. I tried to hide them as best as possible.

Yeah, weight loss will not get rid of Gyne. Gandular Gyne anyways. Was once 148 pound at 6 foot and still had'em.  :-/

Last August I was 227 pound and now I weigh in at an even 200. I cut back on my beer consumption big time, go to Weight Watchers, and the gym. Gotta tell ya that it's soooo much easier going to the gym without the moobs!

Yes! Continue exercising. The healthier you are for surgery, the better.

Naw, I can't see how your Op. would harm your muscles.

Excellent! Glad to hear that you're feeling better ;). The light gets brighter and brighter with every passing day!

Thanks to Bambu on telling me how to post pictures.  I didn't think there was that much work involved.  I tried calling my ISP (Rogers) to setup posting my pics but was put on hold for too long that I finally gave up.  I will try again this Sunday.  Trust me, I'm itching to post these pics.  I think it will be cathartic for me.

For the guys out there who have had a successful surgery, I would like to hear more stories of how your life has been without your moobs.  I've read a lot of post and the most that's written about it is it feels great and you should get the operation done immediately.  I've had these things since I was a teenager (feels like forever) and I have to know what other psychological effects it has had on post op patients.

Explain the first time going swimming or the first time taking your shirt off at a beach.  Did you still worry about how you looked?  Did you keep looking down because you were unsure of yourself?  How was it trying on tight fitting clothes?  Things of that nature.  I know some people might read this and think it's stupid for me to ask because all the answers will be, "it was fantastic".

I know I want the operation but some poor slug might be afraid or embarrassed to do so and if there's more details as to life without moobs, that might encourage other readers.  After my operation, I will try to keep on visiting this site to encourage other users to get it done (assuming the good doctor doesn't perform a botch job).

Sensitivity was another issue.  I love it when my girl licks my nipples.  I actually enjoy it more than sex.  Will I lose that sensation?

By the way, I called Fielding's office on Friday to get an even earlier consultation with him and the receptionist said they were booked solid until June and that no one has been cancelling.  I told her having this thing is a pain in the ass and she was quick to quip that no it's not, it's a pain in the chest (haha).

Pics next time I post.  It should be this Sunday when I have some free time to call Rogers and set it up.

If you are on Rogers/Yahoo ISP, then you are good to go now. You just have to get onto their Website www.rogers.com and upload your pics into the 'Photos' section.

Once you are on the Rogers Site, click on 'High Speed Internet' which is the fifth option down on the left side of the Page. Then on the next Page under 'Services', click on 'Access Rogers Yahoo! mail'. On that Page click on 'more' at the top RHS. Find 'Photos' and click there. Then follow the directions to upload your pics... Easy! ;)

Oh yeah, once you have uploaded your pics to Rogers, you have to post a link here to your photos Page.

Yes of course i'm getting it, this is such a huge part of my life that i would pay double or triple what i'm paying (OHIP pays for most of it, and from this board it appears that Fielding knows what he's doing so why not)..

check out my other posts to see what happened at the meeting..

i actually got lucky again for the op (knock on wood), it's in april cause there was a cancellation..

so basically 1 month from stumbling on this board and actually figuring out what i have and where to go to get it fixed,  i hope to be gyne free..

Take it easy.  My chest looks different to me in pictures than in my reflection.  Either way, it has to go.

By the by, I had my appointment rescheduled from May 2, to today but, I broke my right (driving) ankle this weekend and I had to rebook.  Now, it's more closer to June.  All I could think of was how the hell am I going to get to see Dr. Fielding.  Because of the pain and I have to keep the foot elevated, I can't go anywhere for the next couple of days (until I see the specialist).  I'm so down right now that I could shoot myself.  It's a good thing I don't have a gun.

I think life sucks right now so I need some words of encouragement from you guys.

Will be checking in later tonight and I'm hoping for some response.

Sorry to hear about your ankle Dude...  :-/

Nothing you can do now...  Patience, ya gotta have patience!

Just try not to think too much about it. Keep your mind busy with other things...

You'll see, time will go by faster than you think.  ;)

Don't worry so much, what's another month on top of how long you've already lived with this nonsense..

how did you break your ankle?

why don't u try this, i remember reading on this board that someone called up, booked their appointment sometime in the future when they could schedule a surgery date that same week with Fielding ( i think they were flying in, and didn't want to pay twice)...maybe u can try the same thing...ask them to reserve a spot in the wednesday after or soon after, if that works, you really haven't lost any time because there is a wait for surgery anyhow...i'm going by what i read before on here (or at least if memory serves me correctly

Thanks guys.

Some good news:  I called the office yesterday to rebook my appointment and they gave me my original slot on May 2nd.  Thank God I don't have to wait until June.  Also, I got an air cast put on today.  The doctor said I won't have to use crutches the more I get use to walking in the cast.  I broke it by catching a football.  It was thrown over my head and when I went up to catch it, I rolled my ankle on the way down.  That was painful.

My girlfriend has been a great help.  Since I'm not telling her about my gynecomastia operation, I don't know how she's going to feel when she has to basically look after me in a couple of months again.  Especially looking after our son.

I'll check in with you guys later and thanks once again.
