I wanted to share my experience because I found that reading what others went through was very useful in my journey. I hope this helps anyone considering having this done.
Like many others, I’ve had gyno for many years and have always lived in denial. I always thought that this was something that could be resolved with exercise and/or pills. But no matter how lean I got or what I took, it was always there. It was such a burden for so long and a few weeks ago I finally decided it was time to get this taken care of. I started to do research on the procedure and qualified surgeons in my area (Houston). I narrowed it down to one surgeon and a backup in case he didn’t meet my needs, and scheduled an appointment for a consult. I was very impressed by the doctor so I scheduled the procedure for 2 weeks later.
I’ve always been terrified of injections so the only real fear I had was with the IV. Reading what others experienced here helped ease my fears of everything else. I arrived at the surgery center and shortly after was called back to fill out paperwork and answer some typical questions about my medical history. The nurses do a great job at making you feel comfortable. After the paperwork, I changed into a robe and the nurse began prepping me for the IV. I did get really light headed for a moment but after it passed I was ready to go. The anesthesiologist came into the room and spoke with me about the sedation and what I should experience afterwards. Then the surgeon came in, drew on my chest and once again explained what was going to happen and what I should expect.
They then rolled me into the op room and before I knew it, I was waking up in the recovery area. It felt like only a few moments had passed. I was really groggy for a few minutes but that quickly began to fade. A few minutes later I felt much better and the nurse escorted me outside where my wife was waiting in the car. I did not feel any pain or discomfort. There was quite a bit of tightness in the area which restricted movement significantly. Later that day, I started to feel a sharp pain in my chest (maybe a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10) so I took the pain meds prescribed in fear that it would get worse over time. I had a few light meals later that day and they went down with no issue. I did not feel the need to take any more pain meds after that (not even Tylenol). The next day I took a shower and was able to view the results for the first time. I was really pleasantly surprised. I have a lot of muscle on my frame with a bit of fat so I wasn’t expecting the results to be drastic but they were. Keep in mind, there is a ton of swelling so this isn’t the final look.
It has now been a week and I can honestly say that it has not been bad at all. I worried way more than I should have. Every day since I’ve woken up with better mobility and less tightness in the area. The only pain I’ve felt has been in my rib area and it’s only when I stand up after sitting or laying down for a while. Another major issue I’ve had is with sleeping. I am a stomach sleeper and having to lay on my back has been horrible. I’ve been taking OTC sleep aid but that’s only helped a little. Considering what was done, sleeping discomfort being the only issue is not bad at all if you ask me. The vest they make you wear is not bad at all. After a few days, you won’t even know it’s there. My surgeon said they would replace the vest with a compression shirt (Under Armour style) at our next appointment (3 weeks post). He also advised me that I’ll be able to start light weight lifting. I can’t wait for that because not being able to do really any physical activities for such a long time is not my style.
