Doctors,

Thank you so much for your advice that you give to everyone on this forum.  I've had gynecomastia since I was a child, I'm now 29 and want to get rid of it.   I've gone to a couple doctors here in town and one exclusively uses an orthopedic shaver only method.  The other one I saw said he thinks he could do it in his office under local anesthetic and do excision only.

The excision only is most intriguing because he would only charge $750 for it and said it could be done in the office vs a hospital which saves additional cost.

My question to you is, with the pictures I have posted of my particular case would excision only provide a good result?   I'm worried about craters and not having a smooth contour if any fat is also needed to be removed?   He said I had a minor case and that excision only could take care of it...but when I asked him about craters etc he didn't seem confident that it wouldn't occur. Everything I've read online seems to recommend a lipo+excision approach.

1. What are your thoughts on excision only for my case based on photos?   2. What do you think about using an orthopedic shaver if I go with the 1st surgeon.

 Thank you again!!!

Based on your photos, I would approach your problem with a combination of liposuction and excision.  I would be concerned that an excision only approach might leave contour issues or not adequately address the condition. Use of an orthopedic shaver along with liposuction could give you a good result in the hands of someone who uses this approach with regularity (I don't use this technique.)  While your condition is not severe, it requires as much if not more expertise to achieve a good result without complications, so you might want to consider seeing a gynecomastia specialist.

Good luck,
