I'm having surgery performed by a very reputable surgeon in New York in just over two weeks. Does anyone who's had the surgery have any advice? Specifically things you wish you had done to prepare?(but also post surgery tips) I'm a fit 29 year old who's only recently realized that I can do something about a condition that's made me self conscious since early adolescense, and I'm very excited if a little intimidated by the idea of getting rid of it.

I suggest you don't smoke. I heard that's bad before surgery. Also, I suggest not being nervous. It's not as bad as you think it is (the surgery).

Have reasonable expectations about the results. Trust me. It helps to be prepared.

I agree, although I had little doubt in my PS's ability and would probably have been very upset if my surgery did not turn out as well as it did.

You should ask your PS about this, but this is what I was instructed to start taking two weeks pre-op:

1000mg Vitamin C three times daily
400mg Vitamin E three times daily
325mg ferrous gluconate three times daily
one multivitamin twice daily

Also, refrain from aspirin as it may have detrimental effects on your surgery.

My doc told me no booze, no smoking, no multivitamins and no aspirin/ibuprofen for 2 weeks before surgery.  Get any prescriptions for meds filled *before* you go in.   Other than that I'd say make sure you manage your expectations and you'll do fine.
