In Bumrungrads Hospital, price for gyne surgery are 69,000, but Dr Poomee's charge slightly higher than other PS tht is 95,000.

http://www.bumrungrad.com/thailand-hospital/plasticsurgery/html/plastic_surgery_surgeons_detail.asp?id=sur5624238521&procid=

I guess, might be because he's the best.

Anybody can enlighten me on this.

I have only read positive things about Dr. Poomee on the internet. Although, I have not found any write ups from people that have gone to him for gyn. I have sent him a number of emails and pics of my chest. He has been very responsive.

I have a consultation appointment with Dr. Poomee on Monday. I plan on asking him about how much experience he has with this operation, what procedures he uses (surgical, use of drains, vests, etc), and if he has before/after pictures of previous patients. I will share what I learn with the board. If I am happy with the consultation I plan to have the surgery sometime in August (if possible-Dr. Poomee's schedule tends to fill up in advance. He is a very popular doctor).

By the way, the 95,000 Baht quoted is for liposuction only. He has told me that there is an additional charge of 20,000 Baht if excision is used (105,000 Baht @ 34 Baht/USD = $3088 USD).

Will report back in a couple of days.

I went to Bunrungrad Hospital today to meet with Dr. Poomee. First off, Dr. Poomee spoke English very well (not surprising given he lived in the states for 20 plus years). After an examination of both my breasts, he told me that he believes that he can correct my gyn with lipo alone (since my glands are mostly soft tissue). I am a little concerned about a lipo alone procedure. I would not want to do the surgery twice... It would seem that alot of board members that have undergone lipo only procedures tend to be unhappy with their results (especially those with glands)

I asked him if during surgery he believed that excision was necessary would he do it and he answered yes. He uses drains when he does excision. After the surgery he urges his patients to wear a compression band for 4 weeks or so

He told me has does about 10 gyn surgeries per year, but has dones thousands of liposuction surgeries on other parts of the body.

I am sort of up in the air about the surgery now. I think that if I pushed for excision he would do it, but I wonder if I should go to someone back in the states with more experience with the procedure. The price in Thailand would be 3,000 USD. Cost is not really an issue, but I would prefer to recover from the surgery in Thailand as opposed to the US.

If I have left anything out, please feel free to ask questions.

Thank you Binap for sharing your effort to cure your condition. I am also looking into going to thailand and have the surgery with Dr. Poomee. Did he sound to you confident in carrying out the procedure, and did he show pictures of previous surgery that he carried out?. Please update us about your next step to be free of Gene. Thx alot.

Dear Paranoid07,
Dr Poomee seemed very confident in regards to the surgery. As I mentioned earlier, he has a great deal of experience in plastic surgery and told me that he has done gyno surgery a number of times. He showed me 5 before and after pictures of previous patients. Four of the five were of lipo only surgeries and one was of lipo+excision. All looked very good (no surprise there given the pics are supposed to drum up business).
My major concern during my consultation was that he reccomended lipo only after my examination and in my case it is clear that I have a good amount of glandular tissue. When I asked him if he would do excision if I requested it he said yes.
After thinking about this for a long time, I scheduled to have my surgery (lipo+excision) with Dr. Poomee. I will have my pre-surgery consultation and check-up on August 24th and my surgery on the 25th. What is nice is that I will have an overnight stay after the surgery so I don't have to worry about the after effects of the drugs and getting back to my hotel so soon after the surgery.
Dr. Poomee has told me that I will be able to travel 7 days after the surgery, but my plan is to stay in Thailand 6-8 weeks recuperating after the surgery. He has also offered to help me get a 3 month medical treatment visa for my long stay.
For the price, there are alternatives in the US. Dr Wienner is cheaper than Dr. Poomee and there is a great deal of positive feed back on these boards about him. In the end, my dicision was driven by Dr. Poomee's general experience (25 years), the fact that he has done the surgery before and is familiar with proper procedures to correct the problem, and the fact that I can recuperate in Thailand (without having to sit on a plane just after my surgery).
So far, my experience with Dr. Poomee has been first rate. I have scoured the internet reading reviews from dozens of his patients and I have yet to find a negative comment. I hope my results will be just as good. I will keep eveyone informed of my experience (and hopefully progress :)).

Good Luck!
Rob

Ross,
I just got back from my pre-surgery consultation. The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I will spend one night at the hospital after the surgery and be released the following day. I plan to keep you guys informed and will try and upload the usual before and after photos once I have them.

At today's pre-surgery consultsation Dr. Poomee did a great job of putting me at ease. He has agreed to do lipo plus excision. Drains will be installed after the surgery. If there is little or no blood that has collected in the bags by the following day he will remove the drains before I go home (yay!). I even met Dr. Poomee's wife who spends a great deal of time talking with patients and answering non-surgery related questions/issues.

Dr. Poomeee once again exaplained to me how and where he would make the excisions and post-op care. He went into some detail discussing some the treatments that can be used to minimize the appearance of the scars. I will spend 7 days post-op in Bangkok and the head to some place else in Thailand a little more laid back and comfy.

I paid a total of 106,000 Baht for the surgery. This is about 3220.00 USD. I could get the surgery done cheaper in the States, but I feel comfortable with Dr. Poomee's experience and I like the idea of recuperating in Thailand. It would have been much cheaper if I had the surgery done before the Dollar took a nose dive.

I will follow up with more info on Sunday and upload photos when I have a chance.

Thanks!
Rob

Good Luck, and dont regret spending the money and thinking I could of got it done cheaper etc! Main thing is, money comes and go's. And your comfortable getting it done in Thailand and your comfortable with the Surgeon.

I paid £4,000 and have NO regrets and this is coming from a 20 year old student who borrowed cash and used his student loan ...

I am writing from this entry from the hosptial (There is Hospital wide WiFi). Everything went very smoothly today. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30 AM and went to the admissions office. Once there, someone escorted me up 4 floors to the surgery ward. At the surgery ward I changed into a blue gown and checked in all of my belongings to be stored in a lock box during the surgery.

Once changed, I was escorted in the surgery preperation area. There were probably 8 other people in the room either waiting for surgery or having just finished with surgery. I was given a bed, asked to lie down and was told that I was second patient that Dr. Poomee would be seeing today.

I think I must have waited about an hour or so when Dr. Poomee came to the surgery prep room. He asked how I was doing and then asked me to remove the top part of my gown so that he could mark my chest for surgery. Once Dr. Poomee left the anesthesiologist arrived and introduced herself. She asked me a number of questions and said that we would be starting soon.

I was then wheeled over to the surgery room where soft music was playing. I moved to the surgery bed and my gown was replaced by a large terry cloth sheet. One of the nurses shaved my left hand and the anesthesiologist let me know that she would be injecting a local anesthetic into my hand. I felt the needle breaking my skin and the pressure from the anesthesia as she injected it into my hand. After a couple of minutes, the anestesiologist inserted the IV and thankfully I couldn't feel anything. The anesthiologist then let me know that she was injecting the general anesthesia. The last thing I remember before passing out was her asking me if I feel anything. I responded just the pressure from the injection and then bam I was out.

The next thing I knew I was in a bed in the recovery room. I could feel the pressure of the chest binding, but no pain at all. I felt like I had just woken up from a deep refreshing sleep. It took me a couple of minutes to clear my head, but after that I felt alert.

When I had a chance I looked down at my chest and all I could see was the chest binding, but no drains/bags. This made me a little concerned, because I was afraid excision wasn't performed. All of the pictures I have seen online have the drains on the outside of the chest binding. However, feeling around my chest binding, it feels as if they may be on the sides of my body underneath the binding.

A nurse then came by and took my temperature and blood pressure and I was rolled up to my private room.

Lunch was waiting for me in my room and once I changed from my blue gown to hosptial PJs (with the help of a coulpe of nurses)I had lunch and watched some TV. I have nodded in and out of sleep all day. My dinner has just arrived (choice of western, japanese, or thai dishes) and a couple of pills I need to take.

Overall, I feel very good. I can tell that the local anestethia that the doctor used during the surgery has not worn off, because my chest is still numb. It will be interesting to see how much pain I will be left with after the pain killers leave my system.

I think I might be able to take a peak at my chest tomorrow when Dr. Poomee comes to check my drains. I will update then.

Thanks for all of the support!

It feels great GynO_DuDe! I checked out of the hospital this morning after Dr. Poomee came to my room to examine me and remove my drains. I got a quick look at my chest before he put the compression band on and things looked pretty good. There was little or no bruising and both sides looked pretty flat. I am scheduled to see Dr. Poomee this Friday to remove my stitches. All in all I am feeling pretty good ;D

Thanks for all of the support guys. Today I took it pretty easy. There is minimal pain, but there ia still some soreness with any quick movements (gotta slow it down). Today I took some pictures of my chest without the compression vest and bandages.

Overall I am very happy with my results. My left breast is a little more swollen than my right, but this is the side Dr. Poomee removed more tissue/fat from. Dr. Poomee informed me he took around 300 cc of fat total from both breasts. He even left the lipo'd fat in a container in my recovery room for me to see. Yum Yum!

I was very concerned about scars and this is very early stage, but I am very happy with the appearance of the incisions at my nipples. They are barely visible, but again the left is slightly redder. Hopefully, they don't get worse as they heal, because they look very good right now. There are only two lipo incisions and are just under each of my arms. They still need to heal, but I am very happy about the placement as once they are healed up they won't attract too much attention since they are on my sides.

Anyways, I am trying to upload some photos with this post. If I fail I will try again using a photo linking service. Please excuse the belly and hairy chest! I didn't take any before pics (sorry!), but I will ask Dr. Poomee for his and post them when he sends them to me.
