If you have seen my photo, you won't be surprised that I'm confused by your need for hair gel the day of surgery.  I have no strong feeling about hair gel (maybe it's flammable), but I do prefer that patients not apply anti-perspirant or lotion.  I also recommend that they use a surgical scrub (Hibiclens) for their pre-operative shower.

I would ask your surgeon.I do not have a problem with anything you mentioned. I just like patients to take a shower prior to surgery. The only reason for gel I can think of is I ask patients to not use skin gels or lotions the day of surgery so the bovie pad can stick to the leg and not have any interference with conductivity of the pad.
