Hi doctors, I'm due to have nipple reduction surgery soon. This will involve solely shortening the actual nipple. This will be a local not general. I'm told its quick and easy. How much time do I need to take off work? Any at all?

It depends on what you do for work. If you have a desk job, you can return to work after the surgery.  If your job is more physical, you should ask your surgeon for his or her recommendations.

Nipple reduction, in which the actual height of the nipple itself is reduced so that it is closer to the chest, is different from standard gyne surgery.  It can be performed under local anesthesia and the post op recovery and post op pain is very minimal.  You should be able to return to desk work the same or next day.

I would agree with what was said.Basically reduction of the height of the nipple is performed under local with minimal down time.Good Luck!

Thanks again doctors!

Can I just ask, is compression needed after this procedure? Again, it is just shortening the length / protrusion of the nipple

Yes, since the procedure would involve liposuction and probably excision as well, compression is required afterwards for at least 4 weeks in my hands.
