Hi Doctors

I recently had a consultation for my gynecomastia correction. The surgeon discussed a combo liposuction with gland resection and plans to leave drains bilaterally. Based on the attached pics, do you think this is the best option? Do you think drains are needed? I'm already nervous about the scars and am concerned about the 2 additional required scars from the drains.

Thanks

I have not used drains for 15 years. There are pros and cons to them.

I would not routinely use drains for correction of your type of gynecomastia.

For most gynecomastia operations, drains are not needed.  There are rare exceptions, such an an underlying and unsuspected bleeding disorder which can result in increased oozing after surgery.  That is why I do fairly complete blood testing prior to surgery -- and once in a blue moon, I uncover one of these problems.
