i had my surgery done 2 days ago,on july 15th. i am wearing the compression vest.is it ok to sleep on your stomach,or side, or do you have to sleep on your back? i am sore, but i did not take any more percs today.it seems that my vest is kind of tight and it is quite uncomfortable, especially near my center of my stomach.

I'd stick to your back for now. Prop a few pillows up underneath your knees and it's not so bad.
etc.

So that you don't put any pressure on your chest.

Pressure on your chest is good, but of course not too much.  When I went to see my PS on day 2 pots-op (I think) he said I was free to sleep however I felt was comfortable.  It's not like sleeping on your stomach would make your chest become mishapen.

Aside from whether or not it's OK to do so, my question is how could you do it?  It'd be far too uncomfortable in my opinion.  In fact it wasn't until I was about a month post-op before I could lay on my stomach without the rough healing tissue bothering/hurting me as it was pushed into my chest.
