Hi

I work for This Morning on ITV. We are hoping to do a positive story about how Gynecomastia sufferers are benefiting from NHS surgery.

We're hoping to show how the procedure is actually having a really positive impact on many sufferers' lives.

My email is sophie.docker@itv.com if you are interested in talking to me.

Thanks

Sophie Docker

as you rightly pointed out sophie in the other thread you posted in its an embarrasing condition to have, some of these guys on here have sufferd most of there lives with this condition, trying to find different methods of hiding it like never taking there shirts off whilst on there holidays or even at home,  only wearing baggy clothes, and only wearing a certain colour of clothing... because other colours cast shadows and make the condidtion more aparent!.

Its a condition i have found that realy knocks the confidense out of people, i mean the people on here are absolutley great bunch of guys you couldnt wish for a better crowd, but if you ask most of them, they will have a problem with talking to people about there condition face to face, i myself have only had gnyecomastia for a couple of months now.. but it was my own doing because i had used steroids, i myself in this short time have noticed i cannot wear most of my Tshirts and have become realy selfconcious about people looking at me, thinking to myself have they noticed.. even if they havent you still think people have noticed.

i just hope you get someone to bring this condition in to the light alot more sophie, the more the public hear about such conditions the more people will understand the pain and suffering it causes... and its not something to be laughed or pointed at.
Testicular cancer wasnt understood by many a few years back, it was somthing that many didnt take seriously, all you had to do was mention the word "testicles" and people would giggle and laugh and it would  force people to stay away from the doctors and not talk to anybody for the fear of being laughed at or not to be taken seriously, but now it has been covered so much by the press and TV it is not laughed at anymore and many lives have been saved.

Obviously i dont speak for everybody on here sophie but this is just my opinion, but good luck in bringing this condition in to the light, it might be a bit of a hard task to get somebody to step forward because of the confidense and embarressment issues, they just want rid of the condition and to carry on with the rest of their lives.

good luck sophie ;)

Sophie

I just responded to your post on the other thread, but I'll repeat my comments here in case you miss them.

Not for me, no way would I appear on TV admitting to having either has gyne or had treatment for it. You have noticed how "man boobs" seems to be a big comedy items these days? Not funny for those who suffer. You are to be applauded for trying to alter public perception, but frankly you have more chance of turning the tide.

Do us all a big favour and concentrate your item on the possible causes of gyne, and its increasing incidence. Lets have someone from the food industry explaining why hormone treatments in the food chain are being allowed to blight peoples lives in this way. Do a public service and let the public know that the food they eat is being manipluated for profit at the expense of not just their health, but their sexuality.

Genetic manipulation of food caused widespread outrage, despite their being no evidence of it having any effect on the consumer. Hormonal manipulation can be seen to be having a detrimental effect.

No offense meant (and this is a measure I guess of people's sensitivity to possible ridicule over this), but I have taken my pictures off my profile.

Hi

It's Sophie again. Thanks for your mails. It's definitely something that This Morning and especially our doctor, Chris Steele, really want to highlight.

We just need to find some men brave enough to come onto the television and talk about it. It's such a difficult subject. We have contacted a number of specialists who are on the look-out for volunteers, but it's a matter of waiting for someone to come forward.

As soon and we do, we'll cover it.

If you have anymore ideas about the sort of issues you think would be important to include, please feel free to contact me.

Best wishes

Sophie

A million quid delivered personally to my door in a Bentley driven by a bikini-clad Jodi Kidd wouldn't persuade me to go on National TV and talk about my condition...and that's even considering that I've had successful corrective surgery.

Telling a handful of friends and close family about the surgery was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life.

I know your intentions are good Sophie, but I think all of us have a kind of collective nightmare about ending up on something like a Chris Morris Brasseye spoof (now there's an idea!).

Cue nervous head and shoulders shot of me in studio….cue Chris Morris overdub “This man says he suffers from a medical condition called Gynecomastia….but we call him titty-boy”.

Seriously, I’m sure you could persuade someone to talk if you did a pre-recorded piece where their face was pixelated.

Just seen the item on This Morning; very sensitively handled, we were wrong, well done! Can't see it stopping "man boobs" jokes overnight, but a small step in the right direction nevertheless.  Thank you Sophie and the rest of the This Morning team.

He'd had it "done", by Karadis. His younger brother still has it apparently, and his father/grandfather had it before him.
