Anyone have any feedback on Dr William Flynn in San Diego / LaJolla?  Works in the same building as Dr. Brahme I believe.  I'll post more info I have later.

Apparently he uses a well proven lipo technique with a sort of rotoscoping tool that helps break up the tissue. I mentioned Dr Schafers laser assisted technique and he stated that they are not convinced of the technique / technology yet, but that the one he employs is tried has been around much longer and is proven. I also mentioned excision and he seemed against it for a few reasons.  Sorry if thats vauge, dont quote me. It can be difficult trying to memorize everything a doc says during your first consultation.

I don't know who Dr. Flynn is, but I do know Dr. Brahme ... he's a great plastic surgeon.

I don't think either of them perform that many gynecomastia surgeries, so keep that in mind.  Also remember that lipo-only will not remove dense glandular / breast tissue.

Avoid Schafer.  I'm just warning you ahead of time.

I found a real interesting plastic surgeon at UCSD; Dr. Anne Wallace.  She's the breast specialist there, and apparently she does amazing work on both men and women from what I've been told by other people in the UCSD medical department.

She makes two small cuts on the outter edge of areola, and first lipos everything to remove the fat.  Whatever remains is glandular tissue, which she then uses scissor-like tools to cut it out and remove it from the small incisions.  She says her technique barely leaves any scars.

She seems very trustworthy because this is not a private practice like many of these other plastic surgeons.  The money you pay goes directly to the UCSD medical center.  She gets paid on a salary I'm assuming.

Hmmmmm.   I think Flynn told me I have some fatty and some glandular tissue as well.  I would assume i am a mild to moderate case though so Im not soo concerned if I have a slight lump in that area, I just hate those puffy nipples.   Maybe if I was cold all the time. ;D

Anyway, I thought Dr Flynn told me that this lipo technology he uses is a sort of tool that spins and can kinda break up the fat AND gladular tissue and then suck it out.... but maybe he was just referring to fatty tissue.  Said he'd take a certain # of cc's out of one side versus the other being that they are slightly different.

Again, I dont know if I have a major enough condition to justify excision... and Flynn doesent seem to care for that method due to scarring and other factors.  Said he would probably offset the lipo incisions so they wouldnt be so conspicuous either.  I could care less, I just dont want my nipples puffing back out after I pay $5 g's to have this done, and a few on here seem to mention having little to no improvement after this surgery. >:(

It MIGHT work, but people with puffy nipples usually have glandular tissue below the subareolar complex which causes the nips to puff and protrude.  Liposuction is designed to remove fat; it MAY break up SOME glandular tissue, but it may not ... it's too hard to determine by sight and feel ...  the situation needs to be assessed during the procedure.

That's why the better plastic surgeons for gynecomastia surgery perform both excision and lipo.

It's up to you, though, bro.  I'm not trying to discourage you.  If you feel Flynn can take care of your problem, then go for it.

I like what I'm hearing in this post.  Any ideas on the price range?  Anyone know of her work with gyno?  I want to find someone who will get all the fat and tissue out so my pecs finally show!

Around $5,000.

Go in for a consultation.  You'll be impressed.  The lady has an amazing personality, and you get a great vibe from her.

Her breast knowledge is second-to-none in my opinion ... she's been working on breast-related problems for 19 years I think.  UCSD is world-renowned for its medical facilities, reasearch, and doctors; you'll see that she fits right in.

Good luck guys.

By the way, she's booked.  She works as both a general and plastic surgeon, so her workload is bigger than most.  I'm still waiting to be scheduled.

Hmmmm.  I'll check her out for sure.... and think I'll avoid Schafer not onloy based on what you said, but because there are PLENTY of great doctors closer.  How much did you say Schafer charged again?  $6500 you said before?  How do you know for sure?

Flynn and his team said they are pretty confident in their pricing (just over $5k) and stated they do competitive pricing should I find a lower cost and still want to have Flynn do it.  I might go see Brahm though and ask him a bunnc of questions now that I know more.  Wonder if Brahms technique is the same as Flynn's?

Yes, $6,500.  I had an unsuccessful surgery there.

I could be wrong, but I think they use the same technique.

Un-succesful as in how?  You just arent happy?  I guess for $6500 total you better be completely happy.  You had to chalk it up as a total loss and go elswhere?  Wow!

You have any before / after pics you care to share or perhaps explain to us rookies what you consider "un-successful"  ???

To begin with, Schafer told me on two occasions that he could and would remove EVERYTHING (fat / breast tissue / gland), but after removing the compression vest for the first time, it was evident that very little reduction took place.

The glands remained, some fatty areas were still present, and he even left a good chunk of breast tissue on my right side.  To make matters worse, the left side was significantly larger than the right.

Because he's an ears / nose / throat doctor who's been certified in liposuction, he technically can perform the procedure.  However, he is NOT a plastic surgeon, and he was never properly trained.  As a result, his poor technique left me with excessive amounts of seroma (fluid build-up) and scar tissue.

His website was initially misleading, as it claims he is a plastic surgeon, which is NOT true.  Secondly, I was fooled by his lie that he performs more of these surgeries than anyone else in the world.

I had surgery a little over a year ago with Dr. Joy in long beach after reading about someones experience on here.  She was incredibly professional and I couldn't be happier with the results, (haven't worn a t shirt at the beach or jogging since.)   I live in Encinitas and had to commute to the appointments, it was worth it though.  It was a touch on the expensive side at 6500 bucks.  She took out the gland and a little lipo.  I posted my story and some pics a couple of weeks after the surgery.   Good luck!
