I just booked in for surgery for Monday 21st of April at a day surgery in the Fortitude Valley, but I have one big problem - The day surgery staff says that I need someone to escort me after the surgery (because I'll be recovering from general anaesthetic) and I don't have anyone to help take me to and from surgery.

I'm 23 and I've actually just moved out to a share house in St Lucia, where nobody owns a car. I've actually been under general anaesthetic before (for dental work) and felt completely fine when I woke up so I asked the day surgery staff whether it'd be OK to just take a taxi home where my flatmates can look after me, but they said no and that someone would even need to escort me in the taxi.

The problem doesn't just lie in the fact that nobody I live with owns a car, it's also that my gyno is a very personal problem and I wouldn't feel entirely comfortable explaining it to my friends - I'd like to avoid the embarassment if I can. My family lives an hour away and they're in the same boat as my friends when it comes to awareness of my personal gyno issues, that and my parents are Chinese and would be quite shocked (don't know how they'd respond as it's not part of their culture) if I told them I wanted plastic surgery.

I'm not sure whether this is going to get many responses but I'd like to ask whether any of the good "gyno-aware" members of this board will be in the city/valley area on that Monday and be willing to drop me off and pick me up one to two hours later.

Or if you have a better idea, please post suggestions :-[

Hi asdas,

Have you thought about using a home nursing service. Yes it will add to the cost, but I'm sure the day surgery wont have a problem releasing you to a registered nurse.
Here is an example from a google search, http://www.kindercaring.com.au
This way you don't have to tell anyone you know.
