One thing I can't help noticing is how quiet the lounge area of this forum is compared to others that I am active on!
One thing most of you probably don't realize is how much Aussies like to talk about the weather!
Maybe this thread won't fly, but anyway, it's summer down here and it has been much cooler and wetter than average thanks to the effect of La Nina. I've barely had to water my tomato plants. That said, today was warm at 31 Deg. C (88 Deg. F) but we're expecting about 20mm (3/4 inch) of rain tomorrow and a cool weekend, before returning to hot weather late next week.
What's it like at your place? :D
-
7° F this morning, going for 38 this afternoon. Rain turning to snow later.
-
Nice sunny day :)
The temperature is 17°C.

Starting off at 31F and moving upward. We haven't had alot of snow this year (New Mexico) but what has fallen is at least giving us something. its been cold (mid 20's F some days.)
Hopefully we have a good dump this week, as we are expecting another snow storm this weekend with cooler temperatures.
Then the upswing.

Hats off to all you guys who put up with such extreme differences between winter and summer. It's what you get used to I suppose. Coldest minimum temperature I have ever experienced here is -4.5 Deg.C (24 Deg.F) and it was a freak event. Our weather here is comparatively mild but it can be quite variable and it's not uncommon to experience 'four seasons in one day' sometimes.
-
I got used to a lot of cold winters. It used to be up to 60 cm of snow (24 inch), 50 days on the ground with snow, temperatures below -15 °C (5F).
Unfortunately, times have changed. This is already the fifth winter to be warm and with very little or no snow. Temperatures are occasionally almost spring.
The summers became hot and steamy. I hope this is just a passing set up.
Today the spring temperature is 16 ° C (60.8 F)

It seems the British simply can't leave us alone. Now they're sending their weather to us. Now we're just getting English weather in the summer, and I can't work on my cars because it's constantly raining. This actually used to be a fairly dry place.
Of course this also means I can't work on my cars in the summer anymore. Now I have to leave almost everything for the winter, so I can contend with dust and low temperatures (spray painting doesn't work well in the cold) when I'm painting.

Blaming the Poms is a national pastime here! ;D
I can't believe how mild our summer has been so far. Although we're forecast to get a 33 Deg C (91 Deg F) day tomorrow, such temperatures have been rare this summer. All next week is forecast for just mid 20's (mid 70's). At least it has been comfortable at my non air-conditioned workplace!
-
I think it's the case in many countries.

For the last couple of days, stories about the cold snap in Texas have made it all the way to our news here. My knowledge of that part of the world is obviously lacking. I didn't even think snow was possible there! One report said that it's been colder there lately than in Alaska!
Stay safe and warm, anyone who lives there.

im next door in NM. We haven't had the problems but we do have the cold.
I've been monitoring this carefully for days now. All I can say is prayers and God speed to everyone east of me.

Floods are occurring along the east coast of NSW. Although not uncommon, some areas are experiencing their worst conditions in 60 years. One town has recorded 18" of rain in four days!
Even a house floated away:
NSW flooding: house swept away in flood waters in West Taree - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e100L3ykiS0)
That reminds me of a similar event more locally, about 20 years ago. A family evacuated their farm to another property miles downstream. Their house also floated down the swollen river, and was deposited in the front paddock of the place that they were temporarily staying at! True!
-
Third year in a row under the influence of La Nina. I'm very lucky to live where I do, we haven't been caught up in the recent devastating inland floods.
Icy blast here today, a week into Summer and we have a forecast max of just 15 Deg C (59 Deg F). Very different to last Sunday when it reached 33.4 (92 F)!
-
Here in UK. First cold snap below zero at night expected to last around a week here.
Sun coming here in East Midlands looks like being a pleasant day but max daytime forecast to be 1 Centrgrade
-
warm, 70.s overcast and foggy
-
Hi there Busted, i'm in east midlands UK too we got bright sunshine but temps not rising above 2 or 3c and getting well down overnight
-
North west Texas gets all 4 seasons, but not really in order. We got a lot of back and forth during spring and fall.
Yesterday felt like spring, tomorrow might be snow. You just never know, and the news is always wrong.
I hope today is a nice as yesterday, but I won't know yet. It's still early.
-
Today is cold and out of place for this time of year. We were hot just a week ago. But this is Texas, and of your don't like the weather just wait 5 minutes.
-
Next door in NM were having weird weather. Cold one morning, hotter than hell by the late PM>
Then cool the next day.
IDK what is happening.
-
Yesterday afternoon was really nice. I made at least 10 laps around the building in my wheelchair wearing just a T-shirt.
Supposed to be warmer today, but who knows. This is Texas, and the weather changes all the time.
-
Was a really nice day today. Just like a normal spring weather. It is North/West Texas, so I'm sure things will change. ☀️
How was your weather?
-
Bright and sunny 5 degrees C Here in UK at 7. 30am
-
typical NM.
HOT with a 40% chance of late afternoon hell.
Followed by a short evening cold rain.
-
Cool here, slightly cloudy.
I think it's actually going to be a nice day. 😉
North/West Texas (Panhandle).
-
Perpignan, south of France.
Sunny and 26°c.
Spring time !
Have a nice day :)
-
Radio just said 'Warm, sunny, and dry.'
They must not have a window in the studio, it's cold, cloudy, and raining. 🤔
-
SO..... How's the weather?
Clear this morning, supposed to warm to 70ish.
Kind of a nice day I suppose. 🤔
-
Warm and rainy.
Will be like this all weekend 🙄
-
Thunderstorms and tornado watches here ;)
-
We had several funnel clouds reported and one F0 tornado touched down last weekend.
https://abc7amarillo.com/news/local/ef0-tornado-reported-in-amarillo-over-weekend
-
Tornados, yuck!
I'm actually pretty lucky where we live, we aren't prone to twisters, we're well outside of the cyclone zone, don't have to put up with snow apart from a very rare sprinkle, and even the worst storms are rarely damaging. The very coldest night I can remember here was -5 deg. C (23 deg. F) and the hottest day was 46 deg. C (115 deg. F).
Today was overcast and cool, max 14 deg. C (57 deg. F), right on average for June.
-
Today (06/10) a Saturday sunny and around 83. Tomorrow about same temp and a slight chance of rain. Monday very good chance of rain so no car washing for me
-
It will be warm again today with a high of 86 projected. 10% chance of showers means it most likely won't, but humid.
-
Hot and humid!
-
Warm and pleasant.
Prob. 86ish for the highs.
-
Weather has been a bit weird. Forecasted as hot, but turns out overcast. The humidity has been horrible this year so it can get miserable.
There is nothing worse than a hot flash in high humidity 😳
What have ya got in your neck of the woods?
-
Yesterday was gorgeous. Considering that we're still slowly climbing out of winter here, we had a decent dose of spring weather. Sunny skies, mild temperatures (high 60's F), but a bit windy. At least the washing dried!
Today started overcast but the sky cleared later. A few days ago the forecast predicted a cold wet day, but we had no rain. It's actually a bit concerning - we could be in for a horrible summer. :(
-
Two weeks into Spring and we're in a gorgeous spell of weather. Blue skies, temperatures for the next week including today (in F) are low 70's, high 70's, high 70's, mid 70's, low 70's, mid 70's, then...mid 80's next Tuesday. No rain. Two weeks into Spring. Horrible summer ahead, almost guaranteed to be full of death and destruction. :(
-
Wet!
WOOHOO!!! WE HAVE RAIN!!!!!
-
We have had 10" of rain over the last 4 days on the southeast coast of Alaska. it is supposed to rain most of this week. The fishing is good, if you can survive the rain and wind in the bay, to catch them. Wearing three layers of thermal underwear over my bra.
-
It's been a real roller coaster here. September was unusually dry and last Saturday the temperature climbed into the 80's. Remember, it's only early Spring here. Bushfires broke out, fanned by strong winds and some property losses have occurred. It was very smoky here yesterday. Today, the forecast rains finally arrived and we've had 58mm (2 1/4 inches) in the past 12 hours with a possible repeat tomorrow. Now we've got flood warnings!
-
we've had 58mm (2 1/4 inches) in the past 12 hours
Now 121mm (4 3/4 inches) in the 36 hours since it started. Normal in the tropics, but not here. Thankfully, it has been constant, gentle rain with no real local damage, but there are evacuation orders in place for areas not too far from here. :(
-
Were clear today.
No storms, and cool to warm day.
Typical NM Fall.
Soon the hot-cold process and then the dive into winter.
-
Late Spring here now, the countryside is looking beautiful after recent flooding rains, and deciduous trees are already full of foliage.
Mid 70's and sunny weather is forecast for this weekend. Already contemplating a coupla snags on the barby for lunch on Sundy! ;)
This time of year has very changeable weather here. It hailed yesterday but I regretted not wearing a hat today when I went for a walk in the sunshine - my face is still stinging! Forecasters here can always get away with predicting "Fine, partly cloudy, chance of rain"...they would never be wrong! ::)
-
Cooling off finally.
Down in Oz ya'll a mirror image of up here.
Our leaves are falling, yours blooming.
What a wonderful difference eh?
NM typically falls down into the low 40s (F) until mid Nov. when things get much cooler.
Crisp this am.
The midday is expected to be around 70 F.
-

Yep, it is wonderful. Teetering one way then the other, always giving us something to look forward to.
I'm thinking that you have distinct seasons in NM? Whereas our seasons overlap a fair bit. The hail we had the other day was of the cold, wintry type, but if we have a storm tomorrow after a warm day (not saying that we will), there's every chance of any hail being of the large summer type!
Indigenous folklore suggests that we actually have six seasons in this part of the world. It's hard to dispute it. This time of the year is indeed Spring, and is aptly described as having tempestuous weather: Gariwerd calendar - Indigenous Weather Knowledge - Bureau of Meteorology (bom.gov.au) (http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/calendars/gariwerd.shtml)
-
Today will be scattered showers with a high in the upper 40's. Winter as arriving! 💦
I'll dress warm since I'll be dropped off for my shopping excursion a bit before the mall opens.
My new balconette bra arrived and is ready for pickup (I can't wait to try it on). 👙
Making a pot of Pozole to eat on over the weekend. Great eating with cold weather about.
-
Inter mountain PNW
Heavy frost here at 26 degrees
At 1000’ of altitude
Mountains have snow now at 3000 ‘
Carved pumpkins for Halloween
With friends last night
Lay 47.5 N here days are short
-
Here it is quite warm for the end of October. 16 degrees C (61 degrees F), in the sun more than 20 C (68 F). I am wearing my light blue sweatshirt without undershirt. The back of my bra is quite visible. I went to the supermarket in the morning. No reaction whatsoever.
-
Here in the central Midwest it’s a chilly day high of 53 today going to Florida for a week though so that will be nice
-
We just spent some time away in a sub-tropical coastal area, temps around 80-ish during the day and 70-ish at night. Got home last night and put the bloody heater on!!! :o
-
Cold and wet.
-
It's bitterly cold here today, so my attire shall include a jumper. Hopefully it won't be Mork and Mindy. That would only make it seem colder.
I'll have a butcher's hook before I go out..

...butcher's hook...?
It's cold in the NW and I know it's cold in TX today. I spend a lot of time in Texas but have never heard of that. Please define for the ignorant. :)

Translation:
'Jumper' is sweater in the USA
'Mork and Mindy' means Windy
'Butcher's hook' means Look
It's Cockney slang from central London most likely developed by 'tea leaves' (thieves) to keep the police from listening in on conversations. It would be most confusing using the slang whilst talking on your 'dog and bone' (phone).
Enough improper English for today, time for a cup of 'Rosy' (tea). 🤭

Thanks for the complete definition and not the cliff note version.
My time there was short. A portion spent detained staring out the windscreen planning my exit to repair a spoiled tire as the lorries flew by. I opened the bonnet to signal my distress as I looked in the boot for a spanner and tire.

Ah, drove through with a bit of troubles.
The motorway can be quite busy.

In the SW its just damn cold!
We hit 12F in the foothills this am with actual moisture in the air.
Frost on the outside stuff.
It'll warm up nicely later, but this is typical NM weather for this time of year.

5 degrees in Central Washington
Up from-12 a few days ago

Up to 10 degrees now In West MI. The wind off the lake is cold, feels like -10. Just got the furnace working it was 49 inside. It will take a bit to warm her up in here. Just glad its working.

More on Brit language:
The Gap directs (i.e., micromanages) store displays, and once directed all the stores to display suspenders next to the mens' shirts. The staff in the London store found that very funny because "suspenders" in England means what we here call garter belts.

The UK and the US are sisters, separated only by a common language. 🤔

I knew exactly what Birdie was talking about! ;)
Regarding the further discussion with suspenders, here's another one which Americans can't understand...we wear thongs on our feet! (they make a flip-flop sound...)
Anyway, the weather. Cool and rainy here today. We're now halfway through summer and haven't cracked 90F yet! Very unusual!(https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f923.png)(https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f923.png)(https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f923.png)

I have found many people in AU are able to understand cockney slang, some can actually speak it. Strange because it's not exactly down the frog and toad (road) from the UK.
I remember that 'thongs' were worn on my minced meat (feet) when I was child growing up. That of course changed as I entered school. So many things changed as what was spoken at home didn't quite fit in the school environment.
It's evening there in AU Evolver, perhaps you could have a few Vera Lynn's until you're elephant trunk, then scurry up the apples and pears to bed before falling on your bottle and glass? (Translate that!)

I am getting a kick out of this.
I do remember calling flip flops thongs as a kid.

Hehehe...I'll answer it properly! I don't drink gin, in fact I haven't had any alcohol at all for a few days now, so there's no chance of getting drunk. We live in a single level house - no stairs, and no falling on my rrrr's! ;)

Jolly good! You are a true master! 👍😉

It's been a stupidly mild summer in my neck of the woods. We have only had three days so far over 30 deg. C (86 deg. F) and tomorrow will be the fourth! Two in a row, woohoo! The countryside normally dries out by Christmas, but it only started to happen a week ago. Ridiculous! It's meant a non-existent bushfire season I guess, but it wouldn't surprise me if Autumn is arid and there are fires all over the place.
Today was simply gorgeous. Calm, cloudless, 31 Deg. C (88 deg. F), exactly how it should be. Tomorrow is forecast 34 (93), still not hot-hot though.
-
In the PNW East Side of the Cascades it is foggy and overcast but above freezing. Time to get spring garden tenderlings going in the shed.
-
we are still cold windy and wet.
We need to moisture badly, but it cuts into me riding.
