Its been quite sometime since i've posted on here, i kind of gave up on getting anything done with my gyno. Well i went back to the doctors to say i wanted to see another specialist about it. Fast forward a few months...so last week i saw a plastic surgeon in Inverness. He checked out my gyno and said he could remove it but wants me to try some testosterone tablets for a few months as they may help to get rid of it? Now from what i've read on here etc this is not possible, surgery is the only way. I have not been to the doctors yet for the tablets, probably go tomorrow, i hate taking medication, even after an open knee surgery last year i avoided taking anything unless the pain was unbearable.

I just read another post saying if you take testosterone then you cant stop as it shuts down your natural testosterone? I REALLY dont want that to happen, or to get shrunken testes!! Id appreciate some feedback on this, the surgeon also said he would just shave the gland/fat so it is smooth with my muscle? He said as it would be my 2nd op my nipple might shrivle up and go black? Or lose sensitivity(it did after the 1st) or be left with a concave (i was also after 1st) but the gyno grew back into the gap. What am i to do?! ???

Oh yeah, just to add, i am 6'2. 12stone in weight, very thin, not much muscle mass, i eat and eat and eat but never put any weight on, had my blood tested etc but everything was within levels?

The guy you saw was a plastic surgeon and he suggests you go on testosterone therapy?  That would be like a plumber telling you your cars engine needs a new camshaft.

In my opinion only an experienced Endocrinologist who specialises in male hormones or an Andrologist should be suggesting such things to you.  Putting someone on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) requires a huge amount of knowledge of male hormones; it also requires careful monitoring of your endocrine system.  Putting you onto testosterone without monitoring and/or  treating other hormones could easily increase your gyne if your body decides to convert that extra testosterone into oestradiol through the aromatisation process.  If your oestradiol goes up you are in trouble.

The other important point is that hormone therapy (be it TRT, an anti oestrogen or an aromatase inhibitor) has been shown to some effect but only where the gland is relatively new i.e. the gyne is less than 18 months old.  After that period of time the format of the gland changes and it is not responsive to such things.  Generally speaking if someone has had glandular gyne for over 18 months, then surgery is the only option left to get rid of it.

He is a plastic surgeon that is his speciality, he wouldn’t expect an Endocrinologist to pick up a scalpel and carry out a facelift, so in my opinion he shouldn’t be suggesting putting you on TRT.

One last thing.  You said “the gyno grew back into the gap”.  If you really think gland has grown back after your initial surgery (as opposed to fat) I think you should be looking into why this has happened.  For instance getting your hormones checked out by an Endo who doesn't simply look to see if your levels are within normal ranges, it is balances that matter just as much.  If it is simply fat them that of course won’t be necessary.

Keep us posted?

I said to him, isn't the only way of getting rid of it surgery? He just said, no these tablets have been known to work but have all these side effects, blah blah blah!! I'm going to go back to the doctor and ask to see an endocrinologist, when i asked about it the last time though the doctor just sent me to a nurse for blood tests then she told me everything was within the normal area. The surgeon checked for testicular tumours, he said they cause gyno? The last thing i want is for it to get bigger, its not as bad as some I've seen on here but I'm tall and thin so its really obvious :( my nipple is permanently puffy, my gyno is hard and tender, heres hoping an other doctor will listen to me properly and send me to an endo, thanks for your reply.
