Hi,

I got nipple inversion surgery done around 6 months ago.  The surgeon cut through the center of my nipple and "released" something.

A few weeks after surgery I developed a slight hard lump directly under the areola.  However over time the hard dissipated and softened.  Around the 3rd to 4th month there was still a slight hardness behind the areola, but the nipple structure looked great.  However, eventually the hardness disappeared entirely, and area behind my areola now felt really soft and squishy.  My nipples started to look puffy when not stimulated.  When stimulated it looks even worse; the entire areola puffs up.

What is causing this puffiness?  Is it gland? Scar tissue? Underlying areola muscles?  What are some possible treatment options?

I can send pictures if needed.  I am in desperate need of advice; I feel regret and shame for doing surgery and getting a worse result.

Thanks,

Jim
