Surgery on NHS - Why go private??

Hi All,

I've just had lypo and an excision on the NHS and though i cant tell the full result yet i'm very pleased so far. The whole process from seeing my GP to the op was about 5 months, and didnt cost a penny!

So those of you considering surgery I strongly reccomend trying the NHS route first, they really do look after you, and even gave me the choice of choosing which doctor i got (i could ask for any one i wanted, though i based my choice on waiting time and location).

any doctor you wanted? So you could have asked for Levick and they would have paid for it?

As far as I'm aware Levick doesn't work for the NHS.

This sounds really positive! I have an appointment to see the plastic surgery team at that exact same hospital tomorrow.... just an consult first....  Hoping to see what they can do for my excess skin /  gyno after massive weight loss....

Do you mind me asking what doctor you were under? I think I am seeing a MR Eltigani...

Well, this is the UK subforum.... So I guess we all live in the UK......

taxpayer expense?  That would be the national insurance contributions people make all their working life... In order to keep the NHS going...

Or we could just let people die in the gutter because they have no insurance, like they do elsewhere.

As for your question kingboob, my doc was Mr. Steve Parker, he's not a PS but a general surgeon who is a specialist in brest surgery (reconstructive surgery) i think! Seemed to know what he was doing!

Well, I am fuming... I got there on thursday to the reception at the hospital, only to be told my appointment had been CANCELED because the consultant refused to treat......  I don't have a plastic surgery issue according to him... fk knows how he can tell; since he hasn't even done an examination on me.

I’m sorry to hear your story but frankly it doesn’t surprise me.  Many of us here in the UK section of this forum have had similar treatment from the NHS.  It isn’t right or fair .. but then that is the NHS for you.

It was my local breast surgeon at my local breast clinic who told me that he didn’t have the time or resources to correct gyne.  He said it was his job to treat breast cancer.

He actually did me a favour because although he was experienced in carrying out mastectomies, he wasn't experienced in gyne reduction surgery and I certainly didn’t want a mastectomy.
