According to my doctor, I have low testosterone that could very well be the cause of my slight gyne, he said Testosterone replacement therapy using the gel would get my levels to where they need to be and could also help my gyne.  This sounds logical to me, but I looked up androgel online and one of the main side effects is "enlargement of the breasts".  Does anyone know if testosterone gel makes gyne worse if you already have it, or does that mean you could possibly develop gyne from using the gel. (implying the person doesn't have gyne before using androgel)  thank you

If not taken properly, it can cause larger breasts due to increased estrogen levels. However if you take it supervised by your doctor with frequent blood tests, its highly unlikely that you'll develop any side effects.

The type/cause of the hypogonadism is key as are your other hormone levels pre TRT and on TRT.

The other key hormones being estradiol (E2-a type of estrogen) SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin- a factor made in the liver which binds testosterone and estradiol with differing affinities) and Prolactin an ancillary hormone of the pituitary.

Most likely your doctor is wrong and the TRT either increases or has no effect on the gynecomastia (unless he is keeping other hormones in check via ancillary meds or you are fortunate in having good estradiol despite TRT and the other hormones are not an issue.

As well as the above the gynecomastia would only be likely to improve via an improved endocrine balance if it was a) glandular as opposed to pseudogynecomastia and b) the glandular gynecomastia was in the proliferative phase as opposed to the fibrus phase (usually this means that the gynecomastia has to have developed no more than about one and a half/two years ago).

If going on TRT you will need a decent hormone specialist to treat you and you will need to speak to other guys with the condition to discuss matters.

Go to yahoo and type in yahoo hypogonadism into the search engine and join the hypo2 site.

When you get their register and ask anything you want including whether or not my info is good or not.

P.S

In and out....I'm off.   If any of this is helpful send a nice thought my way and I'll try and believe in karma.

To any/all that know me take care and all the best.....

Your doctor proposed you to use it not an uneducated stupid bodybuilder who wants to weight lift 150lbs. Trust him.

Unfortunatley the best advice isnt to always do what your doctor/surgeon says. Although they are highly educated and smart people, ive met my fair share who's intelligence i highly question.
Definatly a smart idea to post questions like these on here for some advice.

Your Dr. May be right, but could be off base as well.

An Endocrinologist would really be your best bet for the problem and treatment you describe.
