So I went to an endocrinologist and he ordered some blood work.
My T level was 276 (range is 241-827) and Estradiol (estrogen) levels were 47 (range 13-54)
The doctor sent me the results along with a new slip to take in for more lab work.
The new lab work is for Testosteron F&T&Bio (which I assume is free and total and bio) and for Prolactin.
He does not have it marked to redo test for Estradiol.

I can understand wanting to do the further tests, but the nurse said I'm in "normal range" and the doctor doesn't see a reason to undergo treatment, unless the additional test brings something else up.

I'm no doctor, but a range of 241-827 (for males of all ages) and mine being 276 at the age of 28... I'm sorry but that's just not right. I have the expected T levels for an 85+ year old healthy man.

I guess my question is- do you think at these ranges:
1. Will I likely benefit from hormone treatment?
2. Should my estradiol levels be tested again (being at the high range)?
3. Is it possible that correcting my hormone levels over time can have an impact on my gynecomastia
4. Creatinine was the only thing on the labwork that came back "out of range" it was low. Range of .8-1.3, I'm a .79. Obviously just barely out of range- but still out of range. What does Creatinine do and what can being low do to me?

Are you having any problems associated with low testosterone?  Low libido, ED......that type of thing?  If not, then I wouldn't think supplemental T would really be advised or necessary. You're in the low normal range but T levels can vary pretty significantly day to day and hour to hour.  Early morning blood work is usually advised when testing T.  Often, before starting supplementing T, a doctor will want you to have 3 separate testosterone blood tests to make sure the hormone is TRULY needed.  Unless the readings are out of the normal range, most doctors won't want to start you on anything.  If the average of the 3 readings is still in the low normal range, you may just want to keep a watch on it.

You really don't want to have to take T unless you absolutely have to (medically NEED it).  It's generally a life-long thing, it's very expensive, and it's a hassle. If you need it, you need it......but remember, it's not without side effects of its own.  Some men feel like new men when they take it, others notice no difference at all.

If you do try it and don't notice any significant benefit (either in your levels or the way you feel....including your gyne), you can always stop it and just keep a watch on your T and E levels.

Thanks.
I have other symptoms of low T. I never thought of it as being low T until I started researching...
Lower libido- basically I don't care about sex anymore. My wife and I still get jiggy with it, and no problems with erections, but I have pretty much no desire for it anymore. I used to want it every day, now it's way less often that I actually think about it.
Depression- I don't generally feel sad all the time, but things I have interest in I've stopped doing. Music, photography- two big passions of mine, I've just lost the urge... almost like losing libido for it... Have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning- more so than usual.
Anxiety. Been having for years, but managed pretty well with xanax.
Low energy. I want to go to the gym, play outside with my son, etc- but my body is so tired most of the time I just want to rest.
Body hair- not much. Less than average dude. Facial hair is thin and can't grow a nice goatee unless I grow it kind of long.
Muscle mass- have always has thin legs and arms. Even when I used to work out a lot my arms and legs were pretty thin.
Increased body fat- I eat like shit, but no different than ever in my life. Could just be age, but also a symptom of low T from my readings.

Putting all these together with my gynecomastia makes me feel that low T could be affecting me in a negative way.

Any other comments welcome, especially from doctors! :)

Also- please answer this if you know it...
Why does Androgel and other T therapies CAUSE male breast enlargement??
I thought low T caused it, why would adding more T cause it?

Thanks

Regarding the Testosterone supplements. If the body detects a surplus of Testosterone there are two ways for it to respond. One is to shut down the normal production of Testosterone and the other is the change the surplus into Estrogen. Actually both could take place at the same time.

This is why any attempt to moderate or adjust the hormone levels requires a specialist and regular lab work. This is absolutely not a do-it-yourself job.

Regarding the Endocrinologist; While this developed as a single specialty years ago, the field is now somewhat split. One may specialize in diseases of the liver, another will be the ultimate authority on the thyroid. You want one who has special interest in the male reproductive system. No one Doctor can do everything all that well. Find one who has a specific interest in your kind of problem. The result will be well worth the hunt.
