hi friends,

i had consultation with 3 doctors till now. as per my analysis, total risk involved in surgery is 10% - which is huge of course

one example you can see in this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=4k039CgYJNQ

don't get very scared after seeing this video as this is about stomach not chest. we got bone beneath chest luckily to keep our internal organs safe. but bone doesn't cover 100% if u remember the body skeleton :(

how 10% ? -
swelling, fluid deposition, numbness/pain for long time, life long asymmetry. these are all very common problems involved in surgery. this happens mainly because of doctor's mistake. if doctor touches anything other than fat (like muscle, bone, nerves). these all problem constitutes 5% of total risk.

rest 5% is due to general anesthesia. google it...it's sometime a life taking drug. it causes many many problems. must google it before planning surgery. few factors can double the risk like smoking, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure etc

my analysis could be wrong or incomplete. please feed your inputs.

thanks in advance
rahul, hydrabad

Where I live - There is higher risk of being in a car accident every day I drive.

Basically - I think being under the hands of a professional who has trained for many years is lower risk than most things in life.

i agree McGilli...even one of doctors gave similar example when I asked for risk involved. Example was, when we fly...it involve 10%+ risk...that's why we go for insurance even for domestic flight....but still we fly. And yes, being aware of risk is good I believe, you regret less.
